Uneven head in infants

Quite often, the parents of infants face the fact that the shape of the head of their children is little, and sometimes heavily, deformed. Naturally, such a problem raises a lot of questions about how dangerous this is, why it happens and what to do in this case.

Uneven head in infants

It’s not a secret for anyone that the process of labor is difficult not only for mother, but also for the child. Before he comes into life, one has to go through a difficult journey. Just want to say that nature is much smarter than you and she has thought of everything.

It is known that the head is the widest part of the body and where it passes it will pass and everything else. In the process of childbirth, when the baby passes through the birth canal, the bones of his skull, due to mobility, seem to overlap one another. This is necessary in order to fit in the narrow space of the mother’s birth canal.

Ideally, immediately after birth, the skull of the newborn takes the right shape. But it does not always happen.

Uneven head in infants

The source of the uneven head is not always associated with the birth itself. Sometimes the shape of the head changes during the first months of life. This can be due to sleep on one side and in the same position, injuries and other factors.

Compulsory medical care is needed if a newborn is diagnosed with torticollis, or asymmetry of severe forms (affects the face).

Initially, the violation of the shape of the skull may be noticed by the parents or a pediatrician on a routine examination. It is the children's doctor that gives direction to the maxillofacial surgeon, physiotherapist and neurologist. In particularly controversial or complicated cases it makes sense to visit a neurosurgeon. The complete and most accurate picture can be compiled only after consulting the above specialists and obtaining their conclusion.

From what conclusions each doctor makes depends on the need for a repeat visit or regular observation in a medical facility.

The problem of the uneven head is known for a very long time, even from our ancestors. It is from them that the method of treatment of rolling out has come, which is actively used at the present time. Its essence lies in the fact that the child's head is operated by massage movements in the clockwise direction. Thus, giving the skull the desired shape and returning the bones to their places. This procedure is carried out during or immediately after bathing, when the child is warmed up and it is easier to work on it. However, this method is surrounded by a lot of disputes.
