Rickets in infants: symptoms, causes, treatment
Rickets is considered a very common pathology among infants under the age of 2 years. Especially prone to this disease premature babies and toddlers who are on artificial feeding. Often, rickets in children up to a year entails a further developmental lag and malfunctions in immunity. It is clear that these consequences can leave a mark on the whole life of the child. In this regard, young parents must necessarily be familiar with the symptoms of this disease, the causes of its occurrence, methods of prevention and therapy.
In modern medicine it is believed that rickets combines several pathologies, connected by common anatomical and clinical manifestations. At the heart of these diseases is the process of disturbing the deposition of mineral substances in the bone system of a growing organism. As a result, the children are deficient in the elements necessary for the transformation of cartilaginous tissue into bone, and this is fraught with serious consequences.
The main culprit of this condition is vitamin D, or rather, its lack. It is this element that is the main regulator of the processes of calcium and phosphorus metabolism. He takes part not only in the formation of the bone system, but also in the activity of many internal organs.
In the case of strong curvature of the legs, the child may be lined with fixing tires. It will also be recommended to limit the physical load on the lower limbs until the bone tissue is fully restored. In order to prevent the development of deformities of the feet, orthopedic shoes will have to be worn. Sometimes a child needs surgery to fix the limbs in the right position, but resort to this method at an older age.
Folk methods do not help to completely get rid of rickets, they are rather recommended as an additional maintenance therapy.
If the disease was a consequence of problems in the baby with liver and bile-excreting ways, then it is possible to select effective herbal preparations. Remove the inflammation will help chamomile, seeds of wild carrots, stigmas of corn, calendula.
