The newborn has swollen mammary glands: the causes
At the first visit, the visiting nurse probes the baby’s mammary glands. Many women hesitate to ask why a doctor does such manipulation. Let’s understand, for what purpose the doctor checks a status of a breast.
After the birth of the newborn organism is rebuilt and tries to adapt to a separate existence from the mother. Against this background, the hormonal system of the child also changes. During gestation, the fetus received all the necessary trace elements from the mother through the placenta, including hormones. Namely, estrogens, progesterone and many others. After birth, the level of estrogen gradually decreases. When the amount of hormones is equated to almost zero (this happens around the end of the first month), children can observe a sexual crisis.
In preterm infants, the sexual crisis is almost not observed, but pediatricians consider the absence of hormonal reorganization to be a violation rather than a normal phenomenon.
The sexual or hormonal crisis is a normal physiological phenomenon, which manifests itself by the swelling of the mammary glands.
