How to teach a child to drink from a cup
Among other skills that the child takes in the first year of his life, independent eating and drinking is very important. Some children learn this quickly enough, others all get a little harder. How to teach a child to drink from a cup in a certain period of time worries all parents, since infants can not be accustomed to a bottle, and babies on artificial feeding should be gradually weaned from it. It should be remembered that the age suitable for teaching this skill is individual, as well as the behavior of the parents completely depends on the child’s reaction.
Before choosing a suitable cup, you should remove the bottle from the eyes. With babies in this regard is easier, since after the breast they do not have much of a difference from what to drink. Seeing the bottle, the child who has got used to it will refuse any cup and demand the favorite subject to drink from it. The most suitable type of mug for the baby is a non-spillable, designed specifically for training. It has two handles on the sides, so that the crumb will be comfortable to hold it. The bowl of the cup is designed to prevent the spillage of liquid even with a strong tipping.
Of all the variety of cups for children, it’s up to him to choose the suitable cup. Often it happens that parents acquire the best and quality goods, and the child prefers to him the option, got from the elder brother, who found himself in a box with toys. Still, when selecting, you should pay attention to several points:
- Quality. All appliances that will be in contact with food and drink should be of better quality, be sure to pay attention to the possibility of sterilization and care.
- Spout the cup. It can be soft or hard, choosing the right one is extremely difficult. With a device completely made of plastic, it will be easier in the future to teach your child to drink from a regular mug, besides this, it is easier to wash. If the little man flatly refuses it – you can offer him a cup with a soft nose, perhaps it will be pleasant to drink from it.
- The presence of a pen. Some children who eat from a bottle, perfectly know how to keep it. In this case, the presence of handles can confuse the baby and prevent you from taking the cup correctly. If the child had no experience holding such items – you can safely choose a drinker with two ears on the sides, since it will be more convenient to hold it.
- Color and picture. It will be more interesting for a kid to learn a new device if it is of a bright color or have colorful pictures. A plain drink can cause discontent of the child and refusal of training.
