From what age can you give your child a watermelon
Watermelon is one of the favorite summer treats for adults and children. It perfectly quenches thirst and enriches the body with useful substances. But at the same time, this berry is considered difficult to digest and the digestive system of the baby is far from being able to cope immediately with its digestion. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to the age at which a watermelon can be given to a child.
The question of the need to feed watermelon can be solved crucially – by completely eliminating it from the diet. But in this case, the child will lose not only the sweet juicy dessert, but also a huge amount of useful nutrients. The list of vitamins and microelements, which is rich in watermelon is quite impressive:
- Ascorbic acid. This is all known vitamin C, which helps to strengthen immunity and actively contributes to the normal functioning of the body. So with it, iron and collagen are quickly absorbed, the condition of the circulatory system and the musculoskeletal structure of the body improves, and the production of hormones is controlled.
- Vitamins of group B. The leader in the amount of these substances contained in watermelon is folic acid. It is vitamin B9, which is more in berries than in vegetables. Folic acid provides normalization of the emotional state and reduces the consequences of stressful situations, and also improves the production of hemoglobin. In addition, it ensures the normal functioning of the digestive system.
- Carotene. This substance is necessary for the child for two main reasons. First, it is an antioxidant and purifies the body of toxins and radicals. Secondly, this is the basis for vitamin A, which is indispensable for the normal development of the brain and the vision of the baby.
- Iron. It is a microelement whose useful properties are invaluable for the child. It ensures the growth of the body and the development of the nervous system of the baby, and also constantly participates in the saturation of tissues with oxygen. It is also the main substance for the stable functioning of the thyroid gland.
- Cellulose. Its pretty much in the watermelon. It is not digested by the stomach, but it is therefore able to absorb excess moisture and toxic food residues in the intestines, removing them from the body.
- Fructose. It is 3 times sweeter than glucose, but it does not cause a sharp increase in blood sugar. This is extremely important for children with diabetes.
