Bright sun gives us a beautiful tan. But if you stay in the sun for a long time, then it can turn from a friend into a treacherous enemy. In order not to get burns and not to expose the skin to photo-aging, it must be protected with sunscreens – sanskrin.
In my youth, when the skin condition did not care much for me, I thought that it was necessary to use protective creams only on the beach. But the sun shines all year round – it is weaker in winter, brighter in summer. Ultraviolet rays are found not only on the southern beaches, but also in the middle lane.
In small doses, ultraviolet light is very useful, it helps us synthesize vitamin D and serotonin. But if there is a bust with the sun, then at least we will get burns and photo-aging. At worst, the sun’s rays can affect the skin so much that they cause cancer.
This abbreviation stands for Sun Protection Factor – the sun protection factor. Creams with SPF contain special ingredients that reflect or absorb the sun’s rays.
The protective factor is denoted by the numbers from 5 to 100. Protection with a degree from 5 to 30 is relevant every day and all year round, the numbers from 30 are already for hot sun and the beach.
What do these numbers mean? It’s simple: how many times longer can you be in the sun. For example, my skin begins to redden in the bright sun after 15 minutes. If I take the cream with SPF 30, then I can not be in the sun without burns for 15 minutes, but 30 times more – 7.5 hours!
However, it is worth remembering that this is a very conditional indicator, because I bathe on the beach, wipe myself with a towel, and I sweat in the end. Therefore, the cream needs to be updated. And it is best to apply the first layer before going to the beach.
What filters are made of
Filters in sunscreens are of two types – physical and chemical.
The physical filter is a real screen, it reflects ultraviolet. At the same time filter substances do not penetrate into the skin. However, when you smear these creams, there is a noticeable whitish coating on the skin. But they are absolutely safe. Such substances as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide form a screen on the skin.
There are chemical filters, you definitely will not get a burn with them, this is the strongest protection from the sun. These filters absorb ultraviolet light. But the substances-filters – avobenzone, benzophenone – are absorbed by the skin. In babies, they can cause allergies, and in adults with sensitive skin too.
I use creams with SPF protection all year round. I read horrors about photo-aging and decided that early wrinkles, age spots and other troubles would be of no use to me.
I note that if you use a tonal tool or powder, then a layer of decorative cosmetics is also a screen that blocks ultraviolet rays.
Well, as for the beach. If I want a beautiful tan, I do not use screens, but oil tanning products. The best ones are based on mustard oil, almond oil and wheat germ oil.
If I defend myself from the sun, then I definitely buy only products for children, be it milk or spray. These are safe and moisture resistant products. They are well tolerated by the skin and care for her.
