Modern life is hard to imagine without a mobile phone, digital camera and, of course, a computer. Yes, we live in the age of information technology, stunning technical inventions and scientific discoveries, but there is also a downside to the coin …

A few years ago, I accidentally came to the medical scientific-practical conference, where doctors and gastroenterologists who came from different countries spoke with various reports. Most of the reports were not clear to me, and I waited only for a break to leave the conference.

But the next report caught my attention. The speaker said that their group conducted research to determine the likelihood of the occurrence of certain diseases in representatives of different professions. Since gastrointestinal diseases were among the diseases studied by scientists, they brought the materials to this conference.

Among the people who have an increased risk of getting a disease such as peptic ulcer, and PC users (this group of researchers attributed representatives of all professions who are forced to spend at least 4 hours on the computer during the working day). They took not the first place, but in the first ten were included.

During the break, I got acquainted with the materials on this report in more detail, and, frankly, I was just shocked. PC users are at risk for diseases such as stroke, heart attack, hypertension, peptic ulcer, brain tumor, myopia, psychological diseases, etc. At the same time, relatively young people, aged from 25 to 45, can get such a bunch of diseases.

Agree, in most cases, schoolchildren and students spend at the computer much more than 4 hours a day. What will happen to their health?

Computer games

Surely, most parents were faced with such a problem as the inability to tear a child away from a computer game. But more often than not, parents are concerned that the child has been sitting at the computer for too long. And what about the game itself? How safe is it?

For 10 years of work at the university, I have never been lucky enough to see that in a computer class one of the guys would play logic games or some other peaceful toys. They play constantly, but the goal of all these games is the destruction of opponents. In these games, you can either win or lose, but the only way to win is the complete extermination of the enemy. Compromises on the rules of the game are not provided.

Teenagers most often associate themselves with the character that they control during the game, they draw parallels between the real world and the virtual world. This happens at a subconscious level, and the boundaries between worlds are gradually blurred in the adolescent’s view.

The situation becomes even more catastrophic when a teenager has some unresolved problems: at home, with friends, at school or college. The virtual world, where all problems are easily solved, turns out to be more attractive for him, and he does not want to return to reality.

Computer is the same drug

When I studied at senior courses, a computer action instead of a drug was held at our institute. The idea of ​​this action was that if a person is carried away by something interesting, he will forget about drugs. As such hobby the computer was offered. More than 10 years ago, this action was really relevant.


Today it is time to think about how to distract the teenager from the computer. What to offer him something that might interest him more than a computer? After all, in fact, the computer has become for children and adolescents the same drug. Dependence – on the face, the negative consequences – too. A computer, like a drug, destroys not only physical health, but also mental health (although, of course, the computer does it more slowly).
