Rules of the road (traffic) for children to know is essential. Especially for those kids who go to school themselves, like mine. Therefore, at this moment I paid a lot of attention, and I was very pleased with the result.
But I began to teach the children not yesterday, but only began to take them to the city, where they could see with their own eyes the movement of cars, traffic lights, zebra and speed bumps.
The children knew that cars could run over a pedestrian, that they needed to cross the street to a green light, and that on the road they needed to follow traffic rules. Already at 3-4 years old, they stood at the transition and waited for the desired light to come on at a traffic light.
And just recently a tragedy happened near our house. At the crossroads, a car hit a girl. Not to death, but the girl went to the hospital. She had a complicated leg fracture. And we with the children became unwitting witnesses of what is happening. We didn’t see the strike itself, but as soon as the ambulance arrived, we caught it.
This unpleasant accident was such a shock for the children that they cried all night long after the events in nightmares. Of course, I do not recommend using such examples to teach children how to act, but this is better than any textbooks and stories. Although hard school turned out.
Now my children go to school themselves and regularly pass my road traffic exam. And it helps the computer. I found an interesting program that helps children learn not only the colors of the traffic lights, but also to understand the intricacies of car traffic, cycling, and pedestrian routes along the tracks, if you suddenly have to. Even the children learned what a zebra is, figured out with recumbent reminders for drivers that you need to give way to pedestrians.
And in our city put voice warners near traffic lights. Rather, it is designed for people who have vision problems, but children are so enthusiastic about the metallic voice that they are now more attentively looking around and listening when they say that the road can be crossed.
My ways of teaching traffic rules
I know that traffic regulations are paying attention in schools and in kindergartens. There is no special method of teaching children, but there are recommendations that I have identified and checked for myself on my children.
1. Children’s computer programs are the best helpers in studying the rules of the road.
2. Board games in the category of traffic rules – very much help children to understand in person how to behave on the road. We had such a game, but, unfortunately, we forgot it at a party, and we did not return it.
3. Role-playing games in a team. The children and I staged a scene at school in class 1 on the topic of traffic regulations. Some were traffic controllers, someone was driving in a car, and the rest were pedestrians. The result was a very interesting and useful game that colorfully and vividly explained to the children the rules of traffic on the street.
I know that you, dear mommies, pay attention to the rules of the road and tell the children about the dangers on the roads. Maybe you have your own techniques, share?
