When my friend moved to live in the United States, she was very surprised that coughing and snot was not a reason to refuse to visit a kindergarten. And this is not surprising, because the monthly payment (and it is impressive) does not depend on the number of visits, and the sick, as such, are almost not practiced.
In our case, the situation is somewhat different. First, the monthly amount in the receipt for the kindergarten is directly proportional to the number of visits per month. Secondly, in outpatient clinics, parents are given no problems at every ARVI for parents. Another question is whether parents can always afford to skip work and stay at home with the child in bed?
So we are seeing all year round in the group then snot of all colors of the rainbow, then cough of varying degrees. On the one hand, a cough can be non-infectious (if it is allergic, for example), but, on the other hand, it can be a viral disease, and more serious whooping cough, for example.
Rules in our kindergarten
Of course, in the presence of temperature, the child’s stay in kindergarten is unacceptable. In the group we always have a thermometer, the number of children is noted daily by a nurse.
But about the remaining symptoms, the situation is controversial. I, frankly, not very pleased when my daughter tells how green someone snot, or how someone coughed to vomiting. On the other hand, in the absence of temperature, the caregiver and the nurse are not allowed to send the child home. Maximum – to call mom and send the baby for examination to the pediatrician with suspicion of some kind of diagnosis.
Repeatedly, I raised a question on this topic at parental meetings. Fortunately, our parents are quite adequate, and everyone agreed that it is better not to put the health of other children at risk.
Different point of view
But in the neighboring garden, which is visited by the daughter of my girlfriend, the situation is different. All parents are working, and do not see anything wrong with bringing a sick child to the garden. They say there is no temperature, so everything is in order.
They say that runny nose and cough are not contagious, but it is important to identify and eliminate their cause. It often happens that quite a serious illness occurs without temperature – the same sinusitis, bronchitis, tracheitis and pneumonia. And if it rises, then already at the end of the disease or only slightly, which is not always noticeable.
In this case, it is not about the danger to the rest of the children in the group, but to the health of the person who is directly ill. Undoubtedly, bronchitis and sinusitis are not infectious, but for a sick person, who, despite everything, continues to be led to the garden, and not to the doctor, they can have quite bad consequences.
Unfortunately, pediatricians give out certificates about the state of health of the child (more precisely, that he is healthy) without examining the child. This, of course, is convenient for mothers who have the opportunity to drop by themselves to the clinic for help, and not to pull children there.
But, as a result, because of such negligence, undertreated or sick children also go to kindergartens. Somehow, after a daughter’s disease, the pediatrician refused to help me, because the ESR indicator in the blood test was somewhat elevated (and it returns to normal very slowly). And after all the reason is not that the daughter could infect someone, but in the immunity weakened at that moment. It is good that such doctors still exist.
Another recent case. The three-year-old daughter of my girlfriend recently had her first matinee in kindergarten. And the parents did not want their children to miss him. As a result, instead of the songs, the audience listened to a cough, because the children were brought to almost everyone, even those who were on sick leave (not to miss the first matinee!). Needless to say, after a couple of days, there were two or three children in the group instead of the twenty-five children.
I do not argue that banal adenoids can be the cause of nasal congestion, but it can also be because the child is a carrier of the virus that the body is trying to get rid of with the help of copious secretions from the nose. And it is likely that the baby with a weaker immune system, this very virus and pick up.
Still, we live in society and must respect each other. Therefore, it is better to think once again before leading the child who has fallen into the kindergarten.
And when do you not take the child to the kindergarten? What is a good reason for you, and what are you not paying attention to?
