Despite the mass of electronic entertainment, we try not to forget about this method of spending children’s leisure as reading. And if I now almost completely switched to an e-book, then my daughter still prefers paper versions with colorful illustrations.
To be honest, in the first years of my baby’s life I bought so many books that they would be more than enough for the next few years. In addition, many relatives and friends adhere to the rule: the book is the best gift. And the library of my childhood is still alive and well and is waiting for a new reader with impatience.
At the age of five, children are already able to follow the plot of long works, the reading of which stretches far from one evening. These include the adventures of Chipollino, the adventures of Dunno, the adventures of Carlson, the adventures of Buratino, and even a collection about the Wizard of the Emerald City.
However, from the last work, the daughter liked only the first part, in the rest (about the Yellow Fog, the Marranov Fiery God, etc.) the plot is still too intricate, and there are too many actors.
In most cases, we read books from the collection of my childhood, but almost all the above works are on sale with beautifully decorated illustrations and large print. Alas, the prices for books today are quite high, and not every family can afford the library that they would like.
Every nation has its own collection of fairy tales. Knowledge of the creativity of their country is a prerequisite for each child, in the kindergarten we pay a lot of attention to this.
I grew up on fairy tales of all Soviet republics. I am sure that my peers still remember many of them. Plus the tales of the peoples of the world that many of them have a simple plot, a minimum of characters and, importantly, carry a morality.
Here, I confess, we have some space. If in 2-4 years old the daughter listened with pleasure and knew many poems by heart – from the Fly Tzokotukha to modern works, now we read only prose.
Among my friends there are quite a few who, from preschool age, introduce children to the classics, thereby developing vocabulary, speech, etc. But my daughter is completely uninteresting. The maximum that you can carry her away with is Krylov’s fables, and even that, it was several times.
Knowing the tendency of parents to satisfy the desires of children, manufacturers try with might and main and often win on kids’ love for cartoon characters. That is why we have books about the adventures of the Winx fairies and fairy tales about princesses, accompanied by illustrations from Disney cartoons.
Of course, it seems more interesting for many children to watch the adaptation of their favorite works. But it is also impossible to completely reject reading, I think. Even if judged by itself, it is rare to find a film that is better than the original. In addition, many details of the plot multipliers are reduced, if not completely removed.
And while reading, imaginative thinking, imagination and fantasy are developing beautifully. A child independently creates visual images of characters, fantasizes on the subject of a work, etc.
What books do your children love?
