I cannot count our family as avid theatergoers, but still we try to go to the theater with the children at least once a year. This usually happens on New Year’s Eve. Indeed, at this time, the children are not only shown the play, but also arrange a special presentation with competitions, round dances, etc.
The very first time
The youngest daughter first came to the theater when she was 1 year old. At that time, she had not even gone yet, but it seemed to me that she would be interested in the musical tale of the Twelve Months. True with the places I miscalculated. I always buy tickets online to see where we will sit. But when this time we hit the hall, it turned out that in reality we were sitting far from the stage.
At first, our pussy still sat quietly, occasionally shouting something, but then she wanted to take a walk. As a result, my husband and I took turns taking her through the lobby the whole performance.
Our eldest daughter got into the theater at the age of two. It seemed to us that she would enjoy the musical performance, in addition, we were given tickets. She really liked the music, about half of the first act, my daughter danced between the chairs, but then she got tired of it and we had to go home.
Three years – it’s time for the theater!
We planned our next trip to the theater with the eldest daughter when she was 3 years old. It was a tale about Kote Léopold, whom she already knew from cartoons. We had elegant places – practically the first row. As soon as the music began to play and fabulous heroes rushed out onto the stage, my child disappeared into the play. It seems to me that she was even afraid to move all the first act, she was so fascinated by the play!
It’s time for intermission, but I could not persuade my daughter to even go out for a walk! Needless to say that the performance fascinated her so that the Cat Leopold became the most beloved hero for a long time?
To the theatre? Sure to!
After I saw that the child liked the show so much, we did not hesitate to buy tickets. Often parents doubt whether the child will be interested in the theater? From my own experience I can say: if you go to this institution with a child under 2 years old, then this trip will be more likely for you, not for him. And this kid is difficult to sit on the spot the whole performance.
If your child is 2-3 years old, choose a puppet theater and it’s good if the characters are already familiar to the crumbs: Kolobok, Aibolit, Masha of the Three Bears, etc. Also pay attention to the duration of the performance – 40-50 minutes will be quite enough.
An adult child from 4 to 6 years old can already be led to any children’s production. At this age, children are well perceived new, they have a sense of humor. It can be not only fairy tales, but also more complex performances: Dunno, the Snow Queen, etc.
Even from my own experience I can say: buy a place in the front rows. If there is no free space, it is better to buy tickets for another day. Somehow, out of a sense of economy, we bought tickets to the balcony. I can say that this performance was completely past us. Even I did not see and did not understand.
After the theater, be sure to discuss the performance with your child. Secure his impressions and quite possibly, the next trip to the theater your child will beg from you himself!
