Like any other medicine, a doctor must prescribe antibiotics. Obviously, they are powerless against viral infections, and fight only against bacterial ones. Difficult to distinguish them by eye, the nature of the infection can be determined by a detailed blood test.
Frequent use of antibiotics is fraught with the fact that the body develops immunity to certain active substances, and they simply will not work. By the way, studies by medical scientists have shown that if people continue to use antibacterial drugs frequently, then in 20 years this group of medicines will simply disappear due to uselessness.
Be sure to write down the names of the drugs with which you treated the child. This will make it easier for the doctor to select a drug for subsequent diseases. If you know that a certain antibiotic does not affect the baby, be sure to inform your doctor.
In no case do not deviate from the instructions for taking the drug. If it is indicated that it is necessary to take before meals, this rule should be strictly followed. Try to take the medicine at about the same time.
Typically, antibiotics for children are produced in the form of suspensions, complete with which there is a special dosing syringe. If the instruction states that the drug should be taken with water, then it should be water, not compote or juice, otherwise the drug may not work.
When I treated my daughter for bronchitis, the doctor appointed her Sumamed in the form of a suspension. I had to take it, it seems, for 5 days, but, despite the fact that I strictly followed the dosage, the bottle was enough for me only for 4 days. In such cases, there is no need to purchase a second bottle, because the meaning is not in the number of days, but in the amount of the active substance. Apparently, due to the fact that the suspension is thick, part of it remained on the walls of the syringe and bottle.
Usually, the doctor simultaneously prescribes medications that support the state of the intestinal microflora. Frankly, as in the case of antiviral drugs, I believe in their effectiveness a little.
However, if you trust the doctor and advertising, take such drugs as Linex, Laktovit, Bifi-forms. It is also necessary to monitor the condition of the mucous membranes so as not to miss thrush and to start its treatment in time.
Also often additionally prescribed antihistamines, which I wrote about. Children are usually prescribed Claritin in order to avoid a possible allergic reaction to the antibiotic.
At the time of purchase, check with the pharmacist if there is a drug with a similar active ingredient at a lower cost. For example, Sumamed costs 5-6 times more than an antibiotic with the same active substance Azithromycin (580 p. / 152 UAH against 93 p. / 24 UAH).
Remember that with bacterial infections, folk remedies and warm drinks are powerless. And in children, the diseases develop especially rapidly, and neglected bronchitis can eventually develop into pneumonia, and cystitis into pyelonephritis. It can only take a runny nose on its own, and in the case of bacterial infections, taking the corresponding drug is extremely necessary, sometimes it takes hours.
