Every year the school is getting closer and many parents want to prepare their child for it in advance.

Someone thinks that one should start teaching literacy as early as possible, there is another point of view – let the child remain a child longer, always have time to learn, let him know the world around better than he develops intellectually.

It seems to me that the golden mean is to start teaching a child at the age of 4-5 years. By this time, and cognitive activity is partially satisfied, and the child is easier to perceive information.

Sound analysis of words

For first-graders one of the mandatory requirements is free orientation in letters and sounds. This is a skill in which children must consistently and correctly name sounds in words.

Our teacher said to prepare for the next year a set of three matchboxes, glued together by side edges. In each of them are different cards (chips), characterizing the letters – vowels, hard consonants, soft consonants.

The teacher explained to us that children need to be taught to depict the word with the help of these conventional symbols (chips) on the model, and these preliminary actions will become a reliable basis for literate (without gaps and changing letters) letters.

After analyzing the words, children usually proceed to the analysis of the sentence. Similarly make up his scheme – by the number of words and punctuation at the end.

So, the child must learn that a sentence consists of words, words can be divided into syllables, as well as into individual sounds.

Many developmental centers promise that they will teach to read any child over the age of 3.5 years – in any case, the billboards, which at one time were located throughout our district, claimed.

To be honest, I tried to teach my daughter to read, but it seems to me that visual memory works more here than reading by analyzing the letters in words. That is, the child remembers the overall picture, what does the spelling of this or that word look like.

I remembered the case of a child friend. In the kitchen she had a bottle of kvass, on which was attached a piece of paper with the inscription vinegar. I asked her son what was written on the label. The four-year-old boy proudly took the bottle, and, leading his finger over the vinegar, said Kvass !.

There is nothing complicated here. Usually in 4-5-year-old children, coordination of movements is already developed quite tolerably. Frequency of training is also important – drawing at home and on the street.

I also like modern books very much – now they are multi-colored and are equipped with stickers with images of favorite characters, and not ordinary black and white, as in the times of my childhood.

Honestly, since I don’t really know how to draw, my task was only to teach her how to hold a pencil correctly. The rest she learned herself. I can’t convey my surprise to you when she wrote my name and the word mom under grandmother’s dictation.

To the desire to learn to read and write did not disappear from the child before entering school, it is better to conduct classes in the form of a game. Remember that it is quite difficult for preschoolers to stay in one place for a long time, so lessons should not last long – the best option is 10-20 minutes.

My daughter and I have a game in which we find out which letter the words begin with. For example, we bought grandmother milk, the daughter hides it in a bag and asks the grandmother to guess what is in it. It adds: I give you a hint – the first letter M!

At first, the baby asked me which letter a particular word began with. But lately, she is already quite well oriented and practically does not ask questions.

Also during the game, you can put the words into syllables, following the correctness of such a division. In the future, it will help the child to observe the rules of word transfer, it is better to perceive grammatical rules.

I remember that in elementary school I was taught to determine the number of syllables with the help of a palm — it was necessary to put it under my chin, while clearly saying the word. The number of chin touches to the palm is equal to the number of syllables in a word.

The choice, as always, remains for the parents to begin teaching literacy from the cradle or to learn the principles of the basic teaching methods (Zaitsev, Doman’s cubes, Elkonin-Davydov system, etc.) and follow them.

I believe that a child has more than enough classes in kindergarten – for example, with us, children teach the basics of mathematics, logic, and literacy. Although, I do not exclude that a year before the first class, you may have to attend extra classes to be well prepared.
