I already wrote in the previous article how, thanks to my initiative, I still managed to find out the location of the inflammatory process in my daughter’s body. In part, the cause of a very high ESR in OAK was sinusitis.
Sinusitis – inflammation of one or both maxillary (maxillary) sinuses, which are located on both sides of the nose, just below the eyes. If in a nutshell, these sinuses have the appearance of caves in which mucus (or pus can accumulate perfectly, depending on the severity of the disease).
Contrary to popular belief, sinusitis can develop at any age. Some sources claim that the internal structure of the nose and its sinuses in children makes it impossible to have this disease. Alas, for two weeks of visits to the ENT department, I had the opportunity to observe there children of very different ages.
Of reasons antritis much. The most frequent – a prolonged runny nose, a complication of acute respiratory infections. Sinusitis can be allergic, when the cause of the swelling and heavy discharge is the allergen.
My daughter (by the way, like me) one of the reasons was the congenital curvature of the nasal septum. Because of this physiological feature of mucus, it was very convenient to pile up on one side.
My temperature at sinus does not increase, but my daughter’s situation is similar. I admit that there could be a slight increase in it, which I did not notice. Common cases when sinusitis causes fever above 38 degrees.
The main symptom to be paid attention to is long runny nose and copious nasal discharge. Well, if the mucus comes out easily. Worse if persisted for a long time swelling and nasal congestion. This means that the pus is inside and the inflammatory process is in full swing.
In advanced cases appear the pains – in the area of the sinuses, head, in the area of the gums. An abundance of nasal discharge is the cause cough, after all, what did not come out through the nostrils flows down the back wall and causes coughing.
In our case, it was the KLA and X-ray, in which even a non-specialist can see filled sinuses. In other cases, an accurate diagnosis can be made by the ENT after examination and familiarization with the symptoms.
Usually applied antibiotic therapy – prescribe a broad-spectrum drug. In our case, it was necessary to inject the medicine intramuscularly for 7 days, because, in addition to sinusitis, there was also pneumonia.
Mandatory and local treatment, the most effective way is cuckoo – flushing of the nose by moving. It took seven of them to fully recover their daughter, this procedure is done in the hospital.
Also be sure to use vasoconstrictor drops, which reduce swelling and contribute to the opening of the outlet of the sinus. Also we were assigned Isofra (local antibiotic) and antihistamine (because, the swelling was very strong).
Not left idle and the nebulizer, especially the nozzle. The first two days we did inhalation with a decongestant (Dexamethasone), and then switched to Borjomi to moisturize the nasal mucosa that was dried out by drops.
In such situations, hospital treatment is usually prescribed, but, firstly, we did the injections ourselves, secondly, we have the opportunity to go for cuckoos every day, and thirdly, in our hospital today enterovirus infection, and on the street -25.
After a week of intensive treatment, the ENT noted a positive trend, recommended to continue taking herbal medicine. anti-inflammatory drug (Sinupret) and control of nasal breathing. Repeated blood tests showed that the ESR rate decreased 2.5 times.
What not to do
In no case you can not warm your nose and the surrounding area! Each time this phrase repeated the ENT. The reason is simple – heat is an excellent medium for the vital activity of bacteria, which are abundantly found in purulent masses. Yes, warming up can temporarily relieve pain, but the amount of mucus in the sinuses will increase, which is fraught with dangerous consequences.
After all, the sinuses have common walls with the mouth, nose and orbit. What can I say, it is, after all, the head and there is always the risk of the infection spreading into the cranial cavity with subsequent meningitis. And the infection can go to the eye socket and eye shell.
That is why self-medication is unacceptable. Every day I heard loud curses by the doctor against mothers who were buried in children’s noses, apparently everything that was at hand. From what they saw with their own eyes: onion juice, laundry soap, honey, and even the breast milk of the neighbor’s aunty. No comments here.
As a maximizer with years of experience, I will tell you that this disease is very unpleasant. Lack of nasal breathing complicates both speech and food intake. In addition, the brain in this case receives much less oxygen, which is also important.
That is why you should not ignore the discharge from the nose of the child, especially if there is a tendency to complications. Perhaps a transparent secret and relatively innocuous, but when a yellow or green tint appears, this is a sure signal to the fact that you should run to the doctor.
Have you encountered sinusitis in children?
