During this month I learned a lot about pediatric dentistry, and I am in a hurry to share with you. This time it will be about sealing the teeth. Surprised? I also have not heard about this before, but the procedure is necessary.
Why do you need teeth sealing?
I learned about sealing the teeth at the reception of the orthodontist. Considering the mouth of my daughter, he stated that she had a catastrophe with her teeth. This is true because the lower fours and fives of the daughter completely ate caries. Our salvation is that she has no toothache.
God is with them – with these teeth, – said the doctor, – they will fall out, they will not go anywhere. The problem you have is in the six. Since they have just begun to grow and are permanent teeth for the rest of their lives, they need to be saved, by all means, from caries.
I thought he meant brushing his teeth more often, putting fillings on time, even under anesthesia, even in handcuffs. But the doctor suggested another option – sealing the teeth. In the process of sealing a healthy tooth is covered with a special substance that protects it from caries for 6 months.
Teeth sealing procedure
With my daughter, we went to the dentist, who first told her about how the process would go. Gave to touch the device from which air is blowing. Then he showed how little milk he drops from a syringe to a tooth.
Showed a brush, which will spread the milk on the tooth surface and the lamp, which contributes to the hardening of the sealant.
Only after the daughter believed that the procedure was painless did the dentist begin the process.
Everything was as he promised his daughter. First, the tooth is cleaned and dried with air pressure, during which all plaque and food debris are removed.
Then a drop of liquid sealant is applied to the dry tooth, which penetrates into all the grooves, bends, and unevenness of the tooth surface. Then, a light lamp is applied to the tooth for 40 seconds, the sealant hardens, the tooth is protected.
For one visit to the daughter, they sealed 3 sixes. She didn’t even get worried how the process was over.
How does protection work?
I was just happy that maybe at least the six could be saved. I asked the doctor, what are our next steps? How will the material act and how to care for it?
The dentist said that these teeth require the same care as all the rest: brush 2 times a day. He also warned that fairly quickly the white material from the surface of the tooth will be erased, but it’s not scary. Because by that moment the protective substances penetrate the inside of the tooth and will protect it from the inside, pushing caries away.
The dentist once again reminded that it is desirable to repeat the sealing every six months in order to renew the active substance. We remembered when we did the procedure and started the countdown, because we absolutely do not want to subject healthy, permanent teeth to caries.
So, girls, science, technologies are moving forward, and we don’t even know that in the 21st century it is possible not to treat caries, but to protect teeth from it. You can save your children from this infection, and at the same time, the pain, and it requires only a couple of minutes of our time.
