Travel literacy should begin to teach children from an early preschool age, along with letters and numbers, because the health and life of a child may depend on this knowledge.
Compliance with traffic rules should be brought to the level of automatism. This means that the child must perform all actions on the road without thinking. For example, we have a magic phrase that the daughter utters completely automatically before each intersection of the road: she looked left-right, no cars, you can go !. This is nothing but the result of my monotonous repetition since the days of walking with the stroller.
This is a very important point, because the rules of behavior on the road do not exist to violate them. And if it is forbidden to cross the road at a given place, it means that it cannot be done even in the absence of cars, even if you are very late, even if we are neat and fast and this is one time.
Remember that a one-time violation is also a violation. No delay is worth human life.
In addition to the fact that I myself never cross the road in the wrong places, but I also try to draw my daughter’s attention to other people who violate the road rules. Perhaps this is not very beautiful, but we call them silly among themselves, although it really is.
The best, of course, – the game. Thus, children perfectly remember any information. In the kindergarten, her daughter periodically holds roadside literacy classes in the form of puppet theater or colorful pictures.
Also, books will be good helpers. Of course, you should not look for the rules of the road for drivers, because now there are a lot of publications with vivid illustrations and poems that are easily remembered.
It is useful to periodically recite some lines of poems with your child, if we have it red, there is no way, red light cannot go, and if the light comes on red, it is dangerous to move.
You can also use role-playing games — use toys to model different situations, explain which of the characters behaves correctly and who does not, learn the new rules.
During walks and trips, pay attention to road signs. Maybe the child has nothing to know about the designations of the main and secondary roads (although many boys are interested in this), but such signs as a pedestrian crossing, an underpass, traffic lights, etc. it is possible to show.
As in the situation with etiquette, you should start with yourself. And if you realize that you yourself do not always follow the rules of the road, now is the time to change your behavior.
I do not know what psychologists think about this, but several times I showed the daughter of the pigeons that the car had crushed, and once we even witnessed how a car hit a man (who ran across the road to a red light, by the way). But it works.
And how do you learn the rules of the road with preschoolers?
