Usually, children with acute respiratory infections manage to cope with a standard set of drugs or even without them. But sometimes there is a need for physiotherapy and other procedures. They are needed to enhance the effect of treatment, speed up the process of recovery and rehabilitation.
My daughter and I have a weak spot – the nose. It is he who suffers from allergy, sinusitis, and in more severe cases from sinusitis. To deal with these unpleasant diseases more quickly, we often seek additional procedures.
So called nasal washing according to the Pretz (from the name of the American doctor). The principle of its operation is simple and consists in the usual washing of the nose and sinuses with antiseptic solutions, sometimes with the addition of antibiotics.
Simply put, a solution is gradually poured into one nostril from a syringe, and at the same time from the other the same solution, but with pus and other secretions, is sucked out with the help of a tube with a special nozzle. To prevent the medicine from going into the oral cavity, the mouth should be kept open and you should say cuckoo, hence the name.
The effectiveness of the cuckoo, I often felt on myself. Believe me, after it you look at the world with different eyes! I do not know the best remedy for thick and abundant secretions that are difficult to blow your own nose.
The procedure is, of course, unpleasant, but not so painful. If you breathe correctly, then everything will pass quickly enough. Children are usually afraid of the need to go to bed and the hum of the device. However, I always managed to agree with my daughter, which is good news.
With this procedure, you can effectively affect many parts of the body – from the nose to the joints. The principle of action consists in the directional movement of drug ions under the action of an electric current of weak force.
There are special solutions of drugs for electrophoresis, often suitable drugs for injection. We have experience of electrophoresis with zinc, calcium and novocaine salts.
After the procedures, I noticed an improvement, but I cannot say that it was the effect of electrophoresis. The only thing I can say for sure is that these manipulations dry out the delicate mucosa of this organ.
This process is completely painless, very rarely there is a slight tingling. The most difficult thing is to keep the child stationary for 10-15 minutes (the procedure lasts on average) with an electrode in the nose. We were saved by a phone with cartoons, you can lie with it a little longer.
We, fortunately, do them at home using a nebulizer. And for those who have not yet become its owners, similar procedures are carried out in clinics.
The principle of operation is simple – the transformation of drugs into an aerosol, which by inhalation enters directly into the respiratory tract (bypassing the gastrointestinal tract, as it would be when taking the medicine inside).
If the inhaler has a low noise level, it’s easy to make the procedure for the child. Again, you can distract with the help of cartoons, games or books.
This is the procedure of exposure to the nose and throat with ultraviolet rays. UV radiation activates the body’s defenses, has anti-inflammatory and bactericidal action, improves metabolism, promotes the synthesis of vitamin D, etc.
Our testimony was slightly enlarged adenoids (a residual phenomenon after acute sinusitis), due to which the daughter sniffed in a dream. And, oddly enough, after ten procedures everything returned to normal, although I did not really hope for ordinary rays of light.
The procedure is quick and completely painless – with the help of special tips, the rays are directed into the sinuses, then into the throat. Duration – a few minutes.
And what procedures are effective for diseases in your children? Did you try any of the above?
