When my daughter was a little over 2 years old, we first encountered this unpleasant disease. As with any disease, it is important to diagnose otitis media as early as possible and begin to heal properly.
By the way, I later read that this is a fairly frequent disease, due to the special structure of the ear, about 80% of children under 3 years of age are ill.
Otitis media is an inflammation of the middle ear. The disease is usually caused by bacteria (whence it follows that otitis therapy is treated with antibiotics). The method of penetration may be as follows: when coughing, sneezing, especially when ineptly blowing your nose, bacteria get through the auditory tube into the middle ear.
The main symptoms are earache, fever. If the child is so small that it cannot explain the cause of crying and the place where it hurts, you need to gently press on the trestle – a small ledge in front of the entrance to the auricle. With otitis, even his slight pressure causes pain, which will be indicated by the child’s reaction.
One fine autumn day (as usual, on a day off) the temperature of her daughter rose to 37.5. No other symptoms – cough, heavy snot she was not. By this time, all the teeth had already come out, which also could not be the cause of its capriciousness and temperature.
Slightly pressing on the trestle and seeing the daughter’s reaction, I have no doubt that it is otitis. It was decided to go to the children’s hospital of our district, where the baby immediately examined the ENT and confirmed my preliminary diagnosis – otitis of the left ear.
Was assigned treatment – antibiotics Augmentin, Otipaks ear drops (which, in addition to local antibacterial, also have anesthetic effect), nasal washing with sea water, vasoconstrictor drops, antihistamine drug in case of allergy to antibiotics. The temperature above 38, the doctor recommended churning.
Already on the second day there was no temperature, the ear bothered my daughter less. The weather was warm, so we went out for a short walk, having previously put cotton wool in our ears and put on a hat.
After 5 days, we reappeared to Laura, who confirmed that my child is healthy.
I know firsthand how problematic it is for a small child to drop their ears. But there is a word necessary, so I had to fix the baby and carry out the necessary procedures. After a few instillations, my daughter realized that after the drops she was relieved and was no longer so aggressively opposed to treatment. With antibiotics it was easier – it is a syrup with a pleasant taste.
In no case should not warm ear. No dry heat, egg, warm diaper and other perversions. Yes, heat relieves pain, but beyond that it contributes to the activity of pathogenic bacteria, which negates all the treatment, and even threatens with complications (chronic, purulent otitis, meningitis, and even brain abscess).
The same consequences can be caused by the instillation of improvised means in the ear – an infusion of chamomile, beetroot juice and other miracle drops.
Often, the inflammation goes to the second ear, therefore, many doctors advise to immediately bury both ears, and not just the one that hurts.
With timely treatment, otitis takes place rather quickly – within 3-5 days. How could you not mind, but you can not do without antibiotic therapy. Do not be afraid of secretions from the ear in the form of pus, but on the contrary, rejoice that the liquid comes out, not inside. After such discharge, the patient usually improves.
Contrary to popular belief, otitis media rarely occurs due to the lack of a cap. Much more often it occurs due to improper nasal hygiene, and because of the individual structure of the ear in young children.
I hope the information will be useful. Good health to your children!
