I have the most humanitarian mentality and, probably, therefore, when I was engaged in the development of my eldest daughter, I didn’t pay any attention to mathematics. She, of course, knew how to count, but in addition we mostly read, studied letters and made various crafts. When it came time to go to school, I realized that mathematics would have to be hard taught, because the daughter swam a little in this subject.
Now my youngest daughter is 2 years old and I decided not to repeat my mistakes and in our classes pay due attention to mathematics. I’ll tell you how we do.
Indeed, why study math with a child if he does not yet speak (as in our case)? First of all, I do not clog up, the head of the daughter of the information that she can not digest. But for the older child, I know that children at this age have a tremendous memory. And everything that we now put into their heads will manifest itself in later life, in a few years.
No need to be too serious. We don’t have a specific time when we do mathematics. We just think everywhere and always. Going up the stairs? We consider steps – in each span of them exactly 10. We read the book? I ask my daughter to count the birds. She says so far is bad, but pokes a finger at objects and repeats the numbers in their own language. Especially good is her toe, i.e. five:)
Math is not only an account
Do not pay attention only to numbers. After all, mathematics is such concepts as little, much or none, more and less, long and short, high and low. We are constantly comparing things to each other. For example, balls, ribbons, mugs of tea. Especially daughters like machines with small balls, which she calls Mimi. They are constantly rolling up somewhere, and I already went broke on these MIMI! 🙂
Cards with numbers
We are not working with cards yet, but when we visited the children’s development center, we constantly showed cards with numbers up to 5. During the classes, we recently purchased the numbers that I also draw my daughter’s attention to are clearly written.
Concepts of addition and subtraction
From about 3-4 years old you can already explain to the child the meaning of these mathematical operations. For example, playing cubes you can give the child the task to add a couple of cubes or to take away and name the result.
You can do math with your baby from a very early age. It will develop his mind and introduce him to the world of numbers. And in the future such a child will not have problems with studying in elementary school.
