Recently, her daughter was interviewed at a school. After the procedure, the head teacher of the school drew my attention that my daughter was hyperactive. What I need to do with this, because at school she will have difficulty. The statement surprised me at first, and then smiled.
What is hyperactivity
Why did you smile? Because the head teacher repeated the same mistake that many mothers make when they are tired of the mobility of their children. The modern term in everyday life is interpreted for some reason in its own way. A hyperactive child is one that moves more than an adult.
Agree, rarely meet children who sit quietly on a chair, idly, when they are asked about it. Most worn, headlong, in their children’s affairs. Yes, in relation to us adults, they are hyperactive. But this has nothing to do with a medical diagnosis.
A child who can be suspected of the very hyperactivity, which is talked about in medicine, does not just sit still. It is difficult for him to remember the information that he is being told, it is difficult to keep attention on one thing, he may cry for no reason, then laugh, etc.
And all this is just an excuse to contact a child psychotherapist who, after conducting special tests, will make an accurate diagnosis. And hyperactivity is a direct consequence of a small birth trauma, which led to the same small violations of brain function.
Therefore, when my child is given a similar diagnosis by the head teacher of the school, having determined it by eye, the situation touches me.
Attention Deficit Disorder
Another skeptical smile caused an explanation of the cause of hyperactivity of my child – she clearly manifested attention deficit disorder. You pay little attention to the child, because she does not listen to you, does not put anything up and tries to attract your attention with such behavior, the head teacher explained her position to me.
I remembered how once I came to pick up my daughter from the garden, and she handed me a half of chocolate candy: Mom, today Danya treated everyone with candy. I ate half and left half of you. If the child had not put me in anything, she would not even have told about this candy, but would have eaten it herself without a twinge of conscience.
But back to attention deficit. Again, the interpretation of the term from the series I hear the ringing, but I do not know where it is. When a shocked mom is told that a child has attention deficit disorder, what does she think about first? That torments her conscience. Yes, I am so busy around that I pay little attention to the child.
In fact, this term refers to the inability of the child for a long time to keep his attention on some object, game, conversation, book, etc. That is, this syndrome has nothing to do with mom and her time.
Again, you should not compare the child with an adult in this case. Any child compared with an adult is not able to hold attention for a long time. Therefore, for the final diagnosis should go to the experts. And certainly not to the head teacher of the school.
Have you made such fashionable diagnoses for your child?
