I am sure that every preschooler knows what a watch is and why it is needed. Unfortunately, not everyone can use this device. But there is nothing difficult here, it is only important to have time, desire and patience at your disposal.
It is possible to begin acquaintance to temporary categories already and years from two. And it does not matter that the baby is not yet familiar with the numbers, because you can navigate in time without them. Try to add to the speech as much as possible time.
So, we started the morning with a description of the future with phrases. In half an hour we will eat, In an hour we will go for a walk, etc. In the evening, you can add and elements of the past tense: the day before yesterday we were at the zoo, Yesterday came the grandmother.
Do not forget about the days of the day, everything is easier here – it is dark at night and everyone is sleeping, it is light during the day and everyone is walking.
All this greatly accelerates the ability of the baby to navigate in time. Later you can expand the horizon by adding seasons.
Principle of operation hours
When the child will confidently navigate in the account at least up to 10-12, you can begin to explain the principle of operation of the clock, both electronic and analogue. The daughter began to show interest in them after three years. It was then that the questions began. And when should we go to classes ?, What time will we go outside?
Since there is a lot of information for a child, it should be issued gradually. At first I talked about the existence of seconds, minutes and hours. Then I linked these concepts with the arrows — second, minute, and hour.
As a teaching tool, we used a large wall clock on which the change in position and size of the hands is clearly visible. I considered the electronic clock to be too easy an option, so I postponed acquaintance with them until later.
In order not to confuse my daughter with the corresponding number of minutes and numbers on the dial (for example, 3 is 15 minutes), I started with such a thing as half, exactly, beginning and almost.
Now her daughter is almost 5 years old, and she, of course, prefers to watch the time on an electronic clock (on the phone display or on the plate). But despite this, she can determine the approximate time and on my wristwatch, even though there is not a single number on them.
Without stimulus and play forms in children’s education, little is obtained. So, a real wrist watch with a beautiful cat became an excellent incentive to learn how to navigate in time. And on New Year’s Eve, her daughter found a real radio with a dial under her tree, by which she now determines the start time of cartoons or upcoming events.
The calendar will come to the rescue – detachable or reversible, it will help you navigate in the days of the week, months, past and future.
In fact, there is no hard time in teaching a child. The main thing is to understand that it will not take a day or even a week, because what seems simple and obvious to us is completely new and incomprehensible for a child.
And how do you teach children to navigate in time?
