Officially, my school was specialized in English. In principle, such schools, where English is taught from the first class, teach English literature in the original language, in the city a lot. But ours had one more difference, which in those years was not practiced anywhere.
From the 10th grade, we had specialization in three areas: physical and mathematical, chemical and biological, and humanitarian. After school, almost all enrolled in universities, mainly in the Institute of International Relations or law faculties.
I do not want to say that all this was meaningless. Knowledge helped in further education in universities. But in life they helped me a little. That is, knowledge works in the education system, and not in life. In my opinion, this is a key point.
I had a classmate. Very conflict and unsociable child. Always sat in the middle row on the back row. But at the same time, mathematics and physics clicked like nuts. From the 10th grade he did not go to the physical and mathematical group. He went to physical and mathematical school.
Since then I have practically heard nothing about him. And now, five years ago, I have been working in one business magazine that was quite famous at the time. I get my next copyright number and in the Interview with Successful People section I see a conversation and photos of that same classmate.
He has his own, so to speak, firm. He gets a lot of money … The fact that he is a successful man, I was not surprised, but I was shocked by the subject of his activity. What do you think, what makes a math school genius for a living? Do not believe it! Leads pickup courses.
On the one hand, I understand that a person had problems with communicating with people in principle, and even more so with the female sex. And he is a great clever who could find a resource in himself and make it a springboard to a new life, to change himself. But on the other hand, why was the array of knowledge needed?
What is the problem?
I have a deep conviction that knowledge at school, as well as knowledge at the institute, is a long-time obsolete knowledge. At least, when a person enters adulthood after school, this knowledge already loses its relevance by more than 50%.
Plus, the school and institute programs are so dense that in good faith there is no real opportunity to study there. Why try to grasp the immense, loading the child with additional knowledge and depriving him of real life?
Moreover, in 6-7 years it is difficult to determine the inclination of the child to a particular area. Therefore, I will give my child to a specialized school only if it is convenient for me to drive him there. And to demand from him an ideal study and the best grades – this is absolutely not.
