Recently, for the second time in my life, I encountered the phenomenon of an allergic cough in children. The fact is that my daughter does not treat allergy sufferers, like our entire family, always without consequences, ate allergenic foods – berries, caviar, fresh juices, etc.
As in the past year, in the second half of May, my daughter suddenly had a dry cough. There was also a slight swelling in the nose, nasal congestion and a small amount of completely transparent snot.
At first, I thought it was tracheitis, but the appearance of the throat did not correspond to this disease – it was of a completely normal color, and the cough was only during a stay on the street, at night, and it was not at home.
While the cough was not strong, I gave my daughter lollipops Isla, which eliminate the dry cough and sore throat. In order to prevent the occurrence of the inflammatory process, Chlorophyllipt spray was used. The nose was washed, as usual, with sea water (I have Marimer).
A pediatrician at the consultation said that she did not see any signs of acute respiratory infections, most likely a cough is allergic and recommended Claritin antihistamine syrup. She also added that this year many trees bloomed at the same time and not in turn (poplar, linden, etc.), which could also provoke an allergy.
The effect after the syrup appeared almost the same day, the cough disappeared, but not completely.
Over the weekend, we went to a children’s birthday in another city (250km from Kiev) and during the trip, the daughter suddenly began to cough sharply, and this dry cough intensified right before our eyes, giving the impression that the child was choking.
We closed the windows in the car, the baby became easier. As we drove past the fields, richly planted with agricultural crops. I am sure that this daughter reaction was provoked either by their flowering or by the chemicals with which the plants were treated.
Upon arrival in Cherkasy, I immediately acquired Erespal syrup, which helps with respiratory diseases and allergic coughing (it inhibits the activity of the cough center, if I may say so).
There was practically no cough in the city – single coughing 1-2 times per hour. However, during the return home, the story repeated. Despite the fact that her daughter was sleeping, she coughed very often.
The next day after arrival, we rushed to a consultation with an otolaryngologist, who, after a thorough examination and my story about the symptoms, quite confidently diagnosed Allergy.
She didn’t recommend anything new – rinse the nose with saline, when abundant transparent snot appeared, she advised using vasoconstrictor agents (Vibrocil, Nazivin, etc.).
The doctor also recommended changing the antihistamine syrup – a widely advertised L-tset. However, after a detailed study of the instructions, I decided not to buy it, because its action is aimed at eliminating allergic rhinitis, and only, but not a word about cough.
Erius began to give her daughter syrup – Desloratadine active ingredient in it, and in the previous Claritin – Loratadin, which is much lower. The effect came almost immediately, on the same day. Yes, there were single coughs, but this is more of a physiological cough than an allergic one.
By the way, antihistamines also reduce itching after insect bites, which is important during the active mosquito season.
Symptoms of acute respiratory infections and allergies are often similar – runny nose, snot, cough. It is often only a specialist who can distinguish a cold from an allergy, who can examine the throat and nose, listen to the lungs and assess the general condition of the child.
By the way, an allergic cough can be not only the result of abundant flowering of plants. It can be triggered by food allergies, often cumulative.
