The summer season leaves an imprint on the nature of nutrition of any person. But the future mother is especially careful to think about the summer menu, not succumbing to dangerous temptations.

In hot weather, many expectant mothers begin to feel very thirsty and consume plenty of fluids.

Do not forget that during pregnancy, body tissues have an increased ability to accumulate fluid; kidneys work under conditions of high load and can deal worse with excretion of large amounts of water from the body. And if out of pregnancy increased fluid intake helps to avoid overheating, increasing heat loss with sweat, then the future mother it can provoke the appearance of edema and increased blood pressure due to fluid retention in the body. Especially it concerns future mothers in the third trimester, i.e. on terms of more than 28 weeks.

In the first and second trimesters, you can safely consume up to 1.5-2.0 liters of fluid per day. But in the third trimester, it is advisable to take no more than 1.5 liters of water per day, provided there is no complication of pregnancy such as gestosis, which is manifested by swelling, high blood pressure, the appearance of protein in the urine. When gestosis should be consumed per day no more than 1200 ml of liquid, including water, contained in the first dishes, as well as in fruits and vegetables.

In some cases, with this complication, the attending physician may even recommend limiting the fluid to 800 ml per day.

These restrictions are difficult to fulfill when you are constantly thirsty. Here can help pretty simple tips:

  • Eliminate from your diet salty, spicy dishes, as well as smoked and pickled foods that enhance the feeling of thirst;
  • drink lightly cooled freshly brewed green tea, herbal teas, unsweetened compotes of berries, freshly prepared fruit drinks. Especially useful for pregnant cranberry juice, which quenches thirst well and improves kidney function.

To quench your thirst, it is better not to use carbonated drinks, kvass and cold tea of ​​industrial production. Their main danger is that they are the source of so-called empty calories, i. E. contain a large number of digestible carbohydrates.

I long for these drinks for a short time, and soon I want additives. The beverages of industrial production usually contain flavors and dyes, which is extremely undesirable for a pregnant woman, since it can lead, for example, to allergies.

As for kvass, it is not recommended to use it for future mothers due to the fact that it is a fizzy and very caloric drink.


Also, it is not recommended to purchase products from private traders simply standing on the street and offering, for example, homemade cakes.

It is also worth mentioning about the nutrition of the house during the hot season. Exclude from your diet sharp, fried, salty foods, convenience foods, as they increase thirst.

It is advisable not to cook food for a few days ahead, because the likelihood that it will deteriorate in the summer heat is quite high. Let your summer menu is dominated by vegetable garnishes and salads.

Very useful zucchini, colored and white cabbage, patissons. Consumption of meat in the summer can be somewhat reduced, but in no case can not exclude it altogether.

The future mother enough to eat 100-150 grams of meat for one meal 1-2 times a day.

Care must be taken to use dairy products. It is recommended to buy it from local producers, without forgetting to look at the expiration date, because the transportation of foreign products increases the likelihood of spoilage of the product in hot weather. It is advisable to buy food not far from home, so as not to walk with them in the heat.

Pasteurized milk is recommended to boil before use. Sterilized milk does not need to be boiled.

From cottage cheese it is better to prepare syrniki and casserole.

Despite the fact that in the summer often the appetite is reduced and the menu is dominated by vegetables and fruits, do not forget that the future mother needs nutrients for the proper development of the fetus.
