Female hormone – progesterone
The organism of the weaker sex of our universe is capable of producing a sex hormone, which in medicine is called 17-OH progesterone. This hormone is produced not only in women, but also in men. So, progesterone is produced in the yellow body (and in a small number in the adrenal glands). The production of 17-OH progesterone is responsible for the process of pregnancy. It is called the pregnancy hormone. In addition to the course of pregnancy, the hormone 17-OH also takes an active part in the process of regulating the menstrual cycle and stimulating the protein. Protein, in turn, carries out the process of preparing the uterus to bear fruit.
The hormone progesterone in the body of a woman is formed continuously throughout the reproductive period. It is produced directly by the yellow body, which is located in the female ovaries. If the woman does not become pregnant at the time of egg formation, then the yellow body is eliminated, and, consequently, the hormone 17-oh progesterone is not produced. At this time, the menstrual cycle begins. After the end of menstruation, the cycle of production is repeated.
17-oh progesterone has a corresponding purpose in the female body: it serves as a connector, as a result of which, when the egg is fertilized, the hormone attaches it to the wall of the uterus. If this hormone is not produced due to any factors, then the attachment process is impossible. As a result, the egg can take the wrong position for development. Progesterone is produced before the 16th week of pregnancy, providing protection of the fertilized egg. Thanks to the presence of this hormone, the probability of involuntary miscarriage decreases after conception. After the birth of the child, the steroid hormone acts on the mammary glands, thereby accompanying the production of breast milk.
The increase in the norm can be observed in the middle of the menstrual cycle, when the body is preparing for a possible pregnancy. If the level of progesterone is increased, it manifests itself in the form of an increase in basal and body temperature.
In addition to the readiness for pregnancy, an increase in the norm may occur because of:
- occurrence of abnormalities in the kidneys;
- cysts of the yellow body;
- absence of critical days for more than six months;
Treatment of a decreased or increased concentration of hormones is prescribed exclusively by a doctor, but, by no means alone. Forget about self-treatment, as this can aggravate the situation, and improper intake can lead to infertility.
Most drugs have the form of injectable solutions, which are administered intramuscularly. There is the following progesterone formulation in injections: 2.5; 2; and 1%. The main part of the solution is useful almond and olive oil. The preparation from the date of production can be stored for five years in a dark place at a temperature of 5-12 degrees.
