Pregnancy and TORCH infection
There was a long-awaited pregnancy! The doctor-gynecologist writes a direction to the laboratory, and among the routine papers with blood and urine tests there is a strange inscription: on TORCH infection. At that moment thoughts start to get confused, and questions appear one after another.
What infections can a completely healthy pregnant woman have? And maybe they are infected with an unborn baby? How dangerous is it and what to do?
In fact, the same direction can get a girl who suffers from infertility, so to know about TORCH (TORCH) should every young woman who wants to bear and give birth to a healthy baby.
In Russian, the term sounds like a TORCH, it consists of the first letters of the Latin names of those infections that are considered the most dangerous for the fetus in the womb of the mother:
- herpes simplex virus.
But the list does not end there, O (others) is present in the term, which translates as other infections, including hepatitis B and C, chlamydia, gonococcus, chickenpox and even HIV.
Many women think that they can not catch these diseases, because they are confident in their men. However, insidious infections are transmitted not only during intimacy, but also by airborne droplets, rubella, for example, can be picked up from a sick child.
Therefore, consider each disease separately.
Rubella is widespread and very contagious, if the virus has entered the body of a woman at the time of 12 weeks of pregnancy, it becomes the cause of miscarriage in 80% of cases. You can forget about this dangerous disease, it is enough to get vaccinated for this.
Cytomegalovirus – a very common infection, transmitted by airborne droplets, as well as during sexual intercourse. Unfortunately, there is no vaccine against it.
Herpes virus is found in the blood of many women. If the disease worsens during pregnancy, the fetus may become infected with all the unfortunate consequences. When this virus affects the genital organs of the mother, the child becomes infected from it during his birth.
Children should be supervised carefully during the newborn period.
Toxoplasmosis – the disease is very dangerous during pregnancy, especially in the early stages. A woman can become infected with raw and poorly roasted meat, as well as in contact with cats, these animals are considered the main source of infection for humans.
