The dangers associated with the yellow body
Yellow body Is a temporary gland in the woman’s ovary, formed on the site of the follicle, from which a ripe egg emerged. And they called it, because it is filled with a liquid of yellow color, containing hormones.
Without a yellow body it is impossible to have a pregnancy and a normal bearing of the child.
Quick navigation on the article:
Regularly, every month in one of the ovaries of a woman of childbearing age, an egg is ripening. It develops in the follicle during the first half of the menstrual cycle.
After maturation, the follicle bursts, and the egg leaves the abdominal cavity. This process is called ovulation.
While the egg moves along the fallopian tube, a yellow body forming estrogen progesterone forms at the site of the ruptured follicle. Especially important is the latter – after all, it is he who prepares the woman’s organism for conceiving and bearing pregnancy.
In the second half of the menstrual cycle, the yellow body actively produces progesterone, which promotes the onset of pregnancy. If fertilization does not happen, then the yellow body atrophies, the level of progesterone drops sharply and menstruation begins.
And the process of maturation of the next follicle is initiated in the ovary.
Influenced progesterone (it is also called the pregnancy hormone) of the endometrium of the uterus expands and swells, preparing for the implantation of a fertilized egg – the zygote. Fallopian tubes slowly contract, promoting the zygote, the cervix dilates to miss a large female sex cell.
But the musculature of the uterus, progesterone, on the contrary, relaxes, preventing it from contracting. Under the action of the hormones of the yellow body, the glands of the uterus secrete a mucous secretion first, increasing the permeability of the spermatozoa, and later the other, which facilitates the introduction of the zygote into the wall of the uterus.
The uterus itself is preparing for active expansion.
Progesterone inhibits maturation of the follicles and prepares the nervous system of the woman for bearing a child. In the breast of a woman begin to develop alveoli – glands that produce milk.
The functioning of the yellow body is controlled by HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), produced by the envelope of the embryo. Thus, if fertilization has not occurred, the yellow body does not receive the order to grow further and degrade.
If conception has occurred, then the yellow body will develop and produce hormones until the placenta is fully formed, until about 10-16 weeks of gestation. Then the child’s place will take over the production of progesterone and estrogen, and the yellow body is reduced.
However, in some women, it persists until the very birth.
Diagnosis of the cyst of the yellow body is performed using ultrasound, gynecological examination, hormonal background analysis, laparoscopy. A woman can feel the pulling pains in the lower abdomen or from the side.
If the pain is always localized in one side, this may be a symptom of the ovarian cyst. Another sign is the violation of the menstrual cycle, blood allocation outside the critical days.
The yellow body cyst can be eliminated by itself, so it is usually not touched, but only observed. If there is no hope of spontaneous atrophy, the cyst is removed by laparoscopy.
Cyst rupture - the most serious complication of this disease. It is accompanied by acute pain, bleeding and requires surgical intervention.
A ruptured untreated cyst can lead to the development of an acute infection of internal organs.
Torsion of the cyst leg also requires surgical treatment, because squeezing the tissues leads to their necrosis.
Thus, the main danger associated with the yellow body during pregnancy is its insufficient functionality. But you should not get upset - the level of development of modern medicine allows you to help women take out a healthy child, even if the body is deficient.
