Avitaminosis, manifestation in the oral cavity
Vitamins belong to a class of bioactive substances, without which it is impossible to maintain vital functions of the body. Vitamins are active participants in most metabolic processes in the body, playing the role of catalysts.
Insufficient quantity or total absence of them will provoke disruption of the formation of enzymes, hormones and a decrease in the metabolic rate. The tissues of the mouth are extremely sensitive to vitamin deficiency, and this will be the first instance where avitaminosis will manifest itself.
Among ordinary citizens, without medical education, there is often confusion between these concepts. Avitaminosis – complete absence of vitamin / s in the body. A typical example of avitaminosis is scurvy – the extreme degree of the development of the disease.
In clinical practice, it occurs hypovitaminosis, in a literal translation, an insufficient amount of vitamin / s.
- Primary – deficiency of vitamins, arising from insufficient intake of foodstuffs;
- Secondary – is formed because of insufficient assimilation of them in the body, with a normal intake. Deficiency can be formed due to various diseases of the digestive tract or the endocrine system.
