My sister called me this morning and asked for a certain amount of money. As she explained to me, she needs money in order to pass the paid tests – Lena is 6 months pregnant. Of course, I heard about paid tests, and, without thinking, I gave my sister money.
However, to be honest, it became very interesting to me: how legitimate is the prescription of such types of tests by a doctor, and are they really necessary? After all, an average young family expecting a child, as a rule, does not have extra money. And the amount is not so small – in various medical institutions from 50 to 200 dollars.
Pay or free?
I studied a huge amount of information, talked with pregnant acquaintances and came to the conclusion that all the basic tests that should be given to a pregnant woman should be done in the district clinic, and completely free of charge.
But some other tests, in particular the determination of the level of various hormones in the blood, or tests, in one way or another, are associated with DNA, a woman has to pay out of pocket. But, having received a referral for such analyzes, I would advise a woman to pay attention to the following points.
And do you need these tests for you?
First, be sure to find out why you need to pass these tests. As a rule, such analyzes are necessary only if there are abnormalities in the normal course of pregnancy, or a pregnant woman is at risk.
And secondly, remember about your right to pass these tests in any paid laboratory, and not only in the doctor who prescribed it. Unfortunately, this clinic is not always the cheapest. And doctors send women to this clinic, as they have a certain amount of money from each pregnant woman.
