3 pregnancies – 4 children. And each time there was a threat because of a different rhesus … It will be a question of my sister Anya.
At the first pregnancy, my sister was registered at 12 weeks. After all the necessary tests were taken, it turned out that she had the first negative blood type, and her husband had the first positive blood type.
This ratio posed a threat of Rhesus conflict, when the baby inherits the dad’s positive Rh factor, and the mother’s body perceives it as an alien body. For this reason, antibodies are produced in the blood of the future mother, which penetrate the placenta to the baby and attack its blood, which can lead to horrible consequences, even to the death of the baby.
Although, according to the doctors to whom Anya addressed, the first pregnancy was not a threat, she was worried. Every month she donated blood for the presence of antibodies, but everything worked out. In general, her pregnancy was quite easy, they had a healthy Rh-negative son.
For a long time, my sister did not dare to have a second child. But the desire to raise a girl prevailed. Almost 6 years after the birth of the first child, she and her husband again waited for the baby.
In the early stages, the pregnancy was uneventful. Anya still donated blood for antibodies, but it was easier for her than in the first pregnancy. However, when her stomach was already noticeably rounded, and two or three months remained before the birth, antibodies were found in her blood.
From that moment on, she had to donate blood a little more often so that she could track how quickly they were produced. Fortunately, the girl was born healthy. Her rhesus was positive. Anne the next day after birth, she was given an immunoglobulin, which was supposed to prevent the development of Rh-conflict during the next pregnancy.
I remember how she was perplexed when she told me this. What is the next pregnancy? There are already two children: a boy and a girl. I will not risk more !. But life decided otherwise.
After another couple of years, Anya suddenly became pregnant by accident. All family council decided that once it happened, you need to give birth. And she herself was not ready for an abortion. Later it turned out that this time there will be twins.
And again, active control of antibodies, weekly blood donations began. This time, the antibody titer in Anya’s blood supply was constantly increasing, we were all nervous. At the 30th week of pregnancy, she was reintroduced with immunoglobulin, and 8 weeks after that, she had a cesarean.
Two Rh-positive girls were born. But this time the situation was far from cloudless. The condition of one of them was satisfactory; for the life of the second, the doctors struggled for several months.
The baby had to urgently do a replacement blood transfusion. There were even fears that part of her brain was affected. These few months she had to spend alone in intensive care. Anya with the second girl was discharged and allowed only to visit her sick daughter daily.
Describing how difficult these months were was simply impossible. Thank God, everything turned out okay. Now all their children are alive and well.
A different Rh factor of the future parents does not always represent a danger to the child, but only if it is negative for a woman and positive for the man. But in this situation, complications can be avoided. The main thing is to find a competent doctor who knows how to prevent the occurrence of Rhesus conflict, and strictly follow his instructions.
Have you ever encountered such situations?
