Active pregnancy, pregnancy and childbirth

Despite the fact that an active lifestyle during pregnancy has recently been widely promoted, many expectant mothers try to limit their activity as much as possible, believing that it is safer for the baby and their own health. Meanwhile, healthy pregnant women, the movement is necessary.

Of course, future mothers must comply with a number of restrictions relating to nutrition, work and rest, traumatic types of physical activity, but even with all the prohibitions, a pregnant woman can lead a normal life without driving herself into some rigid framework.

My pregnancy began with a terrible, painful toxemia. A headache, nausea, weakness, intolerance to all smells and tastes, the inability to eat and drink anything other than water and fruit drink hit me at once. I found salvation from these misfortunes only in the pool and in the fresh air, so from the first weeks of pregnancy I began to go swimming regularly and walk a lot.

Regarding the pool, not only among pregnant women, but also among doctors there are many prejudices, meanwhile, swimming is one of the safest and most useful types of physical activity, which also has a hardening effect. In the water, a pregnant woman feels light and weightless, can move a lot without fear of damaging, and gently and naturally prepares her body for the upcoming birth.

I went to the pool right up to the birth. It was very funny when other visitors to the pool instantly released a separate path for me, so as not to accidentally touch my very impressive belly. In the water, I not only swam, but also performed a number of special exercises for stretching and strengthening muscles. Swimming is practically the only kind of vigorous physical activity that a woman can afford in the last weeks of pregnancy.

As soon as toxicosis receded (by about 11 weeks), I resumed my weekly trips to the bathhouse. Of course, the bathing load had to be slightly reduced: I began to sit down in the least hot place in the steam room, stopped bathing with a broom and dipping into the ice font. Otherwise, everything remains the same.

In general, the bath has a beneficial effect on the pregnant woman’s body: the excess fluid leaves, the body gets rid of toxins, the vessels are trained. Therefore, if a woman is actively attending a steam room before pregnancy, she can safely continue taking bath procedures, being in a position in a milder mode.

If the desire to visit the bath appears during pregnancy for the first time, do not deny yourself the pleasure. The main thing is not to forget that you are a beginner and get used to the steam room gradually, under the supervision of someone from your family or a special instructor.

The last months of my pregnancy were in the summer and the beginning of autumn. On the twenty-seventh week, I took leave at work, and my family and I decided to fly to rest in Sochi. On the way, I bought myself special, slimming knee socks to avoid problems with my veins, put on a bandage, took a pillow under my back, water and snacks.

To the airport we drove about five hours by car. The flight was quite comfortable, Lala in the tummy behaved as usual. From Sochi airport to our sanatorium we had another four hours to go by car along the serpentine road. Of course, the road tired, but after swimming in the sea and having a good dinner, I again felt a surge of strength.

A stay at the sea left me with only positive emotions: I sunbathed, bathed, breathed the healthy sea air and rested from household duties. The heat did not tire at all: in the morning and in the evening a refreshing breeze was blowing from the sea, and it was possible to plunge into the cool water, and in the afternoon we had a quiet hour in the air-conditioned room.

After returning from a holiday, we found our summer in full swing, so that our vacation was continued. Together with my son, every morning we got into the car and drove somewhere on the lake for the whole day. I probably never had such a carefree life!

By the way, driving a car during pregnancy is also not contraindicated. I sat behind the wheel for up to eight months, then the tummy just stopped to fit – I had to transfer to the passenger seat. The only thing I wouldn’t do, being in a position, is to learn to drive a car, since acquiring the skills of a correct and safe ride is associated with large nervous feelings that pregnant women do not need.

I would also like to dispel the myth concerning intimate life during pregnancy: you can and should have sex! In addition to the fact that all feelings are often exacerbated by women during pregnancy, and the sensations become stronger and brighter, having sex helps to prepare the intimate muscles for childbirth.

I am always extremely sorry for pregnant women who voluntarily deprive themselves of the joys of life because of their fears and prejudices. I really want to show my example that pregnancy can and should be active, dynamic and eventful.

If you are among the lucky women who have a pregnancy without complications, do not deny yourself the pleasure to live an active life, breathe deeply, and then nine months waiting for your baby to appear will be the most wonderful and happy time in your life!
