White coating on the tongue of the newborn – what is it? How to remove?
Very often, a new mother worries when she notices a newborn child in the language of a white plaque, a young and inexperienced mother does not know why the tongue of the crumb has turned white and what to do.
The most common reason for the appearance of a plaque is very common – the child eats exclusively mother’s milk, and it is known to be white, hence the whitish tongue of the crumb.
However, this plaque can not always be harmless – it can be a symptom of a disease such as thrush. In order to determine whether the baby is sick with thrush, it is necessary to perform a simple check of the child’s mouth – if the plaque appeared only in the tongue, then most likely it’s just a milk lane, if white spots cover both the gums and the inner surface of the cheeks, and when removing the plaque under it an inflamed area is found, then this is thrush.
You can also pay attention to the behavior of the child; if the baby eats and sleeps well, shows no changes in behavior, then most likely nothing bothers him. If the child cries, throws the chest, it has a bad appetite, this indicates the appearance of the fungus in the mouth.
Thrush (scientific name – candidiasis) – a kind of fungus that appears on the mucosa due to non-hygiene, so the first rule of the mother should be clean.
The reasons for the appearance of candidiasis are always associated with the ingestion of non-sterile objects into the baby’s mouth. The first rule ; for the prevention of candidiasis, it is necessary to monitor the sterility of the nipples, toys, dishes and, of course, the mother’s breast.
The second rule; give the baby a sip of water after feeding. So you can clean your mouth of the remnants of milk and reduce the risk of reproduction of microbes. By the way, this method is used not only for newborns, but also for older children, who do not yet know how to brush their teeth. But if you still see the symptoms of the disease, you need to know how to remove the plaque, harassing both mother and child.
The first and oldest remedy is soda.
In a glass of water, a teaspoon of soda is bred, a piece of gauze is wound on the finger, the finger is dipped in a glass and this finger is gently wiped with a white coating on the tongue of the newborn.
Do not overdo it – you just need to gently wipe it, and do not take off the plaque. Applying this remedy, you can quickly get the thrush to retreat. By the way, a solution of soda can also wipe the chest before feeding, then the risk of getting the milkwoman will drop to zero.
