When a newborn is baptized
The baptism of a child is a sacred act, signifying the introduction of a little man to the church. Christians attach great importance to this event, which allows a child to participate in church rites. It is necessary to prepare in advance for the sacrament, to know its basic rules and to have the necessary attributes for its fulfillment. Often this causes a lot of questions from parents.
It is believed that the sacrament should be committed as soon as possible: 8 or 40 days after the birth of the child. Most often choose the second date, because for 40 days after delivery, the mother arrives in physiological uncleanness and can not be present in the temple. After this time, a special prayer is read over it, and it is again allowed to participate in church rites.
Sometimes baptism is carried out in the first days or even hours of a newborn’s life, but this step is usually followed if the infant is born before the term or is seriously ill. The procedure in this case is carried out directly in the hospital or at home.
Most experienced parents advise baptizing a baby in the age of 1-1.5 years. At this time, the procedure is much easier, and the crumb usually just sleeps on his hands. Later, children begin to get nervous, to be capricious and to behave restlessly in unfamiliar surroundings. After reaching the age of 7, the child will necessarily be asked for his consent, at an earlier age this is not required.
