The newborn got water in the ear; what to do?
On the first day after the discharge, the newly mum, along with the father, will have water procedures for the baby. These procedures include not only immersing the child’s body in water, but also washing the head. With washing your head, you need to be much more cautious, because its incorrect retention during bathing can entail such troubles: water entering the spout, pinching eyes from soap or shampoo. But today we will consider the topic of what to do if the crumb got water in his ears?
The reaction of young parents in such a situation is predictable – they first panic and do not know what to do. Panic is based on widespread rumors that water is the cause of serious illnesses, such as otitis media, inflammation, problems with the ears. But all these fears have no scientific confirmation. What should parents do in this situation and how to solve the problem when water enters the ears of the newborn?
If, during bathing, the baby accidentally dipped his head into the water, and water got into his ears. Of course, the kid will not be able to tell you about this and, moreover, he will not give any signs of this action. What should parents do and is there a reason for panic in such a situation?
The first thing to do is to set the panic aside. Water is not an enemy for the child, and even its entry into the ears is incapable of causing serious diseases or abnormalities (only in exceptional cases, which we will discuss later).
It is not allowed that water gets into the ears of children, which are inherent in the following factors:
- During the disease, otitis media and the first two weeks after it is cured.
- In diseases of viral or infectious etiology.
- If the room temperature is below 18 degrees. In this case, water will act as a causative agent of an infectious disease.
When the water nevertheless enters the eye of a newborn who has problems or has recently had the disease, then the parents should as soon as possible get rid of the crumbs from it. Often, the water that comes into play makes itself felt, causing unpleasant pain in the child. In this case, if you notice that the child after a bath is naughty, sleeps badly, turns, then you should immediately consult a doctor.
Do not let water enter the ears of babies, who have problems with immunity. To prevent this phenomenon, parents are recommended:
- Protect the child from swimming for the time of convalescence.
- During bathing, close the aisles with special tampons, which must first be moistened with oil or cream.
But if the newborn baby does not have the above problems, then parents should not protect him from natural factors. In addition, it should be remembered that the baby was in the womb, where his habitat consisted only of water. If, however, water provoked negative consequences in the auditory canals, which is extremely rare, it is necessary to visit an otolaryngologist who will conduct the examination and prescribe the appropriate treatment. The only thing that parents need to do is to monitor the health of their child.
