The birth of a long-awaited child is not only great happiness, but also a serious responsibility on the part of parents. In the first days of life, the newborn should be under constant control. It is during this period that the symptoms of some serious diseases that are the consequence of the complicated course of pregnancy and childbirth or the defects of intrauterine development are most often manifested. Some babies have sharp involuntary contractions of certain muscle groups, which differ in frequency and duration and quite rightly cause panic in young mothers. The movements of the newborns are rather uncoordinated and often resemble tremors, tremors and muscle spasms. Therefore, sometimes only a specialist can distinguish the norm from certain manifestations of anxiety symptoms. There are several types of true seizures in infants:
- Small, characterized by slight prolonged twitching of the muscles of the face or limbs and often accompanied by a slight blue skin.
- Tonic, manifested in the form of taking a newborn tense posture with a head tilting back and a prolonged respiratory arrest. Most common in preterm infants.
- Clonic, observed only in full-term babies and accompanied by pronounced rhythmic contractions of certain parts of the body.
- Myoclonic, characterized by pronounced sharp twitching of the whole body or limbs.
