Personal (intimate) hygiene of a newborn girl
In the first days of a baby’s life, care is provided by the medical staff of the maternity ward. But upon returning home, the correct hygienic care for the newborn girl falls on the shoulders of the mother. Because of frequent bowel movements and urination, care of the intimate area should be well organized and safe. For the girl’s parents, this issue is considered paramount, since the protective barrier that exists in an adult woman but is absent in a newborn has not yet been formed, and due to the characteristic specific structure of the genital organs it is quite easy to take an infection and acquire a variety of diseases. And this will affect in the future the cycles of menstruation, the course of childbirth and childbirth in general.
At this time, the creamy (beige) or light gray plaque is noticeable on the labia of the newborn. This is the smegma, the original grease, and its presence is perfectly normal. If the plaque is small, it will disappear, but if the secret is abundant, it is recommended to remove it. This must be done, since in a couple of days the fats contained in it will begin to oxidize, which will cause the active multiplication of microorganisms and then inflammation. The structure of this plaque is quite dense, so the removal should be carried out in several stages. Use cotton swabs or disks and warm boiled water (check the water temperature on your wrist). Act delicately! The raid will depart gradually and after 2-3 days it will disappear completely 2-3 days.
To begin with, remember: the use of wet wipes can only be used to remove stool, after which it is necessary to wash the crotch under a stream of warm water. In everyday life, it is unacceptable to use them!
At home, the hygiene of the baby girl is subject to strict rules, one of which is: washing all day long. To wash the girl is necessary after each change of a diaper, and as after a defecation. Do not forget to wash your hands beforehand with a baby hypoallergenic soap!
Important information! A newborn girl should have her own hygiene items; soap, towel, sterile wipes, cotton swabs.
When rinsing the children’s genitals, it is important to observe the following rule: front to back, i.e. towards the anus. Particles of stool should not get into the vagina, this will lead to inflammation. For the same reason, you can not wash the girls in the pelvis.
In the personal hygiene of the newborn girl is also the care of the mammary glands. After 4-7 days after birth, the breast can swell and blush or stand out as a colostrum (this is also a sign of the presence of maternal estrogen). Avoid rough impact on the baby's chest: do not rub it, squeeze out the liquid, eliminate the possible friction of the nipples about the clothes; all will pass in a couple of weeks. Refer to the pediatrician in case of pronounced redness and enlargement of the mammary glands!
Direct care is as follows:
wash your nipples 3-4 times a day with a weak raster of furacilin. It has disinfecting properties, but it does not harm the tender baby skin. As a means for accelerated reduction of swelling of the breast, use compresses with camphor oil.
This experience in caring for a newborn baby is useful to you both during his infancy and in early childhood. But do not forget that one of the main parental responsibilities; to teach your child to self-care for themselves and strict adherence to the rules of personal hygiene.
Remember: the daily hygiene of a newborn baby; his health in the future!
