How to choose a cot for a newborn
Newborn baby the first few months spend much more time in a dream than in a state of activity or wakefulness. In this regard, it is very important to provide the crumb comfortable conditions for a good rest, and for this it is necessary to choose a quality and comfortable bed for it. The task for young parents is not easy, because so many nuances should be taken into account. Which is better: a cradle or a transformer? Do you need wheels and if the built-in boxes are useful? Let’s find out how to choose a crib for a newborn and what parameters to consider when buying.
The range of baby cots today is simply huge, and it’s not always easy to navigate in this diversity. Furniture designers offer parents a variety of options – from classical to very unusual.
This version of the beds is made for the smallest ones, this model allows the crumb to feel as comfortable and secure as possible. Cradles are small, so the child will feel like in the mother’s belly.
Many products are additionally equipped with wheels, so that the crib easily moves anywhere. Some manufacturers supply them with special motion sickness systems and hanging toys. In general, the cradles are compact in size and mobile enough, they can easily be placed, for example, next to the adult’s bed in order to feed the baby at night. However, with all the obvious advantages, these products have a significant drawback – they are designed for a short period of use. The baby can sleep in the cradle until 4-6 months, when he learns to get up, will have to buy another bed for him, since in this one it will be unsafe to continue to sleep and stay.
It allows you to rock the baby. This mechanism looks like a movable suspension on belts, can be placed longitudinally (go along the body of the crumb) or transversely (across its body). There are universal pendulums - they swing the crib in both directions.
However, when choosing this model, it is important to provide for the presence of free space (about 10 cm) on either side of the crib, this is necessary for the possibility of swinging it.
Some cots instead of the usual legs have skids of curved shape. They help to rock the baby. It is advisable to choose a product with latches. When your baby grows a little, it will not need to be rocked any more, and so that these devices will come in handy so that it does not shake the crib. The disadvantage of the latches is that they have to be twisted manually.
Children's clothes and all dowries can take up a lot of space, in this case the box located in the under-bed space will not be superfluous. First, it can store diapers, clothes, children's cosmetics, and later - place toys there. However, some beds are not equipped with such a box and they cost, as a rule, cheaper.
