Table of growth of a newborn child
The growth of a newborn child, like its weight, often worries parents. This is not surprising, because often it is they judge whether everything is good with the baby.
Growth of newborn baby
Several years ago, WHO issued new rates of increment in the growth of children in the form of tables. Data that was used before, were collected long ago, and contained information about kids who ate the mixture.
Studies have shown that babies who receive milk grow and gain weight a little slower than babies that feed on the mixture. The emergence and spread of overstated standards of recruitment and growth is harmful, since such high rates can promote overfeeding of babies receiving the mixture.
The growth of a newborn child in a table compiled by WHO is different for girls and for boys. The table contains several columns showing the growth of a child from very low to very high. Both very low and very high growth are very rare and are an indication for a complete examination of a child, possibly for identifying diseases and prescribing treatment. So, the average height for girls is 46.1 cm, very low growth – 43.6 cm, very high growth – 54.7 cm. The same data for boys are 49.9 cm, 44.2 cm and 55.66 cm respectively. WHO collected data on full-term children, in addition to analyzing the growth of a newborn baby, the head circumference and weight were also evaluated.

Immediately after birth crumbs doctors determine the ratio of height and weight (this parameter is called The Quetelet index ). According to him, the doctor judges the development of the child before birth: whether he received enough nutrients, whether he developed well. To determine the index, we need the weight and height of the newborn child, a table with these data, which is used to compare the indicators. The weight of the newborn is divided by height, a two-digit number is obtained (the normal indicator is 60-70). All this is true only for a child who was full-term and born on time. For preterm babies, development indicators will be different.
Particular attention is paid to growth during the first year of life of the baby. It is believed that it is the growth of the baby more than other parameters, indicates the development of the child, when calculating the use of formulas that take into account the child’s age, height, sometimes – and weight. It is believed that a child with a good development gain about 25 centimeters in the first 12 months.
