New Year’s half-marathon, sport and active lifestyle

Yes, imagine, there is such a thing in the world. Instead of going to the bathhouse on December 31st according to the laws of Soviet cinema, the most desperate among us gather in one of the suburbs and run the New Year’s 21st km. Somehow I also visited among them.

Features of the New Year running

The year before last, I had long doubted whether to run it or not. I have planned the run for a long time. The route was known to me – the same embankment of the Kiev Sea, along which I had run before this night half-marathon. But in the winter cold, I have not yet run. In addition, this race coincided with the collapse of my family, because I was in terrible stress.

Against his background, just a week before him, I had a fever for several days. That’s why I doubted if the body needed another stress? But literally a couple of days before the start, I suddenly realized that it was extremely important for me to take some decisive step. And it was the registration for the mileage.

It was relatively warm outside. If I’m not mistaken, the temperature is somewhere around zero degrees, and by lunchtime it even exceeded a plus. The first snow had melted long ago, and the track was dry. But I, like a novice in the winter running, dressed in a warm sports jacket. Walking in it was comfortable. But when you run, the body warms up.

I realized this later on the track. I was so not alone. After a few laps, half of amateur runners began to undress and hang their things on the belt, or even throw them directly onto the asphalt. And one particularly affected by the heat, even took off his shoes! Imagine this pattern gap? On December 29, a bare-chested dude slaps on the asphalt and squints into the sun!

I was afraid to undress, as I still thought that my illness was something that was cold or viral, and not nervous. I was terribly hot in a hat, sweater, jacket, but I stoically overcame this 21 km. I still praise myself for this act. At the finish I felt the ground under my feet, confidence in myself, my strength.

In the tone of my thoughts I was handed a huge weighty medal with a symbol and a slogan of the race. Under the smiling sun it was written: Prove that you are not zero! And yet, not zero!


The sadness of the past year

Last year, she also planned to run on December 28th. Former husband promised to register and pay for the race. But while he was going, the maximum number of those who wanted was gathered and the registration was closed. And this is still a month before the start! In 2013, another week it was possible to register.

On the other hand, the child and I were just at home because of the virus. I could not prepare for the race. Yes, and the temperature on the street this time was far from zero, and all 10 frost. In such extreme conditions, I have not run.

So it seems to have lost nothing, but still such events create a special New Year mood. These are not ordinary races, but costumed. If you wish, you can somehow dress up and the most original costume gets a special prize.

At that time I didn’t dress up in particular, but to meet a bearded man at a distance with nylon wings and fairy wands – this is still a thrill!

In general, as always, I myself run and advise everyone. And in the New Year holidays – especially!
