Every young mother thinks about whether to feed the baby at night or not. At first it happens spontaneously: the child wakes up, begins to groan, Mommy runs up to him and immediately sticks under her breast. And then, when the little ones are already used to getting their breasts on demand, and the woman dreams only of sleeping for 8 hours without a break, the question of night feeding arises.
The first night at the hospital and the first feeding
Already on the first night immediately after birth, I breast fed my daughter (first child) with my breast. I did not know that in a local maternity hospital, if everything is normal, they bring their mother to the ward. I did not eat breakfast, did not eat lunch or dinner, gave birth at 6 pm and, honestly, expected to sleep. Deliveries were heavy and passed under a drip to stimulate labor. The first cry of the baby, doctors praise the baby, everything is normal.
And here I am in the ward on my stomach. From time to time a nurse drops in, makes an injection for an injection. I sleep. And suddenly a squeak comes from the cradle. God, I jumped like a scalded dog, this is my baby here next to me! I took the baby in my arms and automatically put it under my chest a second time.
Yes, for the first time it was applied to my chest immediately after birth. Despite the small area, our hospital was very advanced and here they know that the first drops of colostrum, received by a child immediately after birth, play a huge role in the formation of immunity.
By the way, if you feed your baby for two hours after giving birth, your baby will be discharged from the hospital without physical weight loss, and even add 20-30 g. These first grams are so important to us. Many mothers are surprised: the child was born at 3500, and 3300 is discharged. Lost weight? This is physical weight loss.
The question of whether to feed at night or not did not arise for me anymore. My husband is very attentive and caring. Already at home, as soon as the baby woke up, he got up and brought it to me.
Fed on demand. Yes, I dreamed of just sleeping, but the baby got up 2-3 times a night. I was told that, they say, the child’s intestines do not rest, this is wrong, at night you need to drink some water. Others urged to suffer, because it is not forever. Even the doctors did not fully decide the question.
Or maybe it all depends on me?
With the second and third kids it was the same. For the fourth time (I have four kids) I became smarter. I thought, why the child does not sleep at night? So he already got used to it in the 9 months he spent in the stomach. Remembering how often during all my pregnancies I got up at night to drink tea (my husband and I owls), and then go to think about life, and then breathe fresh air on the porch, I realized that I had taught my children to eat and not sleep in night time.
In the fourth pregnancy, I determined for myself the regime. She lay down about 10-11 pm and did not get up anymore, only by necessity, you know for what reason. I always woke up at 7 in the morning to collect children in kindergarten.
My boy was grateful to me. In the hospital the first night I slept like a log. The baby did not disturb me. For almost half a year, the child fell asleep in the evening and slept until 6 am. When she started to lure, the boy began to get up at night. I did not resist. At night, continued to breastfeed.
One interesting fact in favor of night feeding
After a series of studies, it was proved that a woman does not become pregnant until she breastfeeds up to 8-10 times a day, that is, at night, too. If a young mother regularly gives her baby a breast, and at night he takes it off with some water, then there is no need to be surprised at the sudden pregnancy. In my cases, this theory was confirmed.
The next pregnancy was never unexpected. I quit breastfeeding, the cycle was restored, and only then they decided to have another child.
