The stimulus for starting aquagymnastics with my son was two factors for me. Firstly, the kid liked being in the water, he happily bathed. Secondly, I understood how useful such exercises would be for the health of the child.
About the benefits of aqua-gymnastics
Aqua-gymnastics is a set of exercises in the water. It has a positive effect on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems of the child, strengthens its muscles, immunity, and also contributes to the hardening of the body. If the child loves water, then during such classes he also receives a lot of positive emotions.
Classes at home
We decided to engage in aqua gymnastics when the baby was about two months old. To perform classes at home, we needed a clean bath and warm water.
The initial temperature of the water was about 38 degrees. Then, about once a week, I lowered the temperature by 0.5-1 degrees so that the baby’s body can be tempered. The temperature of the air in the bathroom was comfortable enough for water treatments and ranged from 22 to 25 degrees.
The most simple exercises were chosen at home.
Backstroke – I held the back of the head of the baby with one hand, my other hand was located under his back. At first we did this exercise in the following way: I brought the baby’s legs closer to the edge of the bath, and he pushed them off and swam in the opposite direction. Then, when the son matured a bit, we started putting a special circle around his neck, and he was able to walk and push himself off the edges of the bathroom.
Belly swimming – I held the baby by the chin with one hand, while the other hand was under his stomach. In this position, the baby was doing in the bath a route resembling the eight. As soon as the baby’s head was nearing the edge of the bath, we made a U-turn and it swam in the opposite direction.
Sidestroke – the head and torso of the child were located on my forearm, while the baby was lying on its side. With the other hand, I supported the pens of the baby. First, we made swimming movements on one side, then on the other. The sailing route was also reminiscent of the eight.
Classes in the pool
When the baby grew up and the bath became too small for classes, we decided to try aquagymnastics in the pool. The most convenient place for this was the water park, which includes both a children’s pool with warm water, and an adult, where the water temperature is lower. The air temperature in the water park was in the same range as at home.
At the beginning, we repeated exercises similar to home exercises in the pool. Then new ones were added to them.
Exercises with a ball – The main projectile for such exercises is a medium-sized ball. The kid tries to immerse the ball in the water, and if he slips out of his hands, he pulls it out on his own.
Jumps (hits) on the water – A child claps his hands or feet on the water. In the second case, I have to help the kid, holding him above the water.
Movement along the cable – the child clings to the cable separating the lanes in the pool. Then he moves his hands and moves in the water along the cable.
Normal swimming – the child swims freely in the pool, holding on to the surface of the water with the help of a special circle for kids.
An important condition for obtaining the benefits and pleasure of aqua-gymnastics is to be confident, not to frighten the child and not to leave him unattended.
