Manka or ichthyophthiriosis is a specific disease of fish that has the infectious nature of its occurrence and is caused by infusoria of equally acute ones. The main manifestation is the appearance of bumps-spots on the body similar to semolina.
Treatment of semolina should begin as early as possible, since the ichik (another name for the disease) depletes the fish’s organism every day, as a result of which it dies. Ichthyophthyriosis can appear in any species, therefore treatment in the general aquarium is recommended.
In aquaristics it is checked that a fish can get a semolina once in a lifetime.
If the fish in the aquarium appear white dots on the surface of the body, then this is the main symptom of the disease that has appeared. Initially, spots appear in a small amount, then every day there are more and more white dots.
White dots on fish have a size no larger than a grain of semolina. Ichthyophthyriosis in fish develops ichthyophthirius infusoria that enter the aquarium with bacteria, along with food, soil and water. Bacteria are fixed on the scales of fish.
The manka on the fish is actually not white spots, but tubercles through which the parasites come out.
- restless behavior;
- fish rub their bodies against objects, plants and soil;
- with the defeat of the internal organs, pets become passive to external stimuli, appetite is lost, they are often on the surface of the aquarium, swallowing air;
- with damage to the cornea, blindness develops;
- the color of scales and torso dims;
- scales covered with white bloom.
Without immediate action, the inhabitants of the aquarium may die as a result of lack of oxygen and damage to the epithelium of a large area.
White spots on the fish
The most frequently infected species are viviparous individuals. For humans, this bacterium is harmless.
Causes of fish decoy:
- live food, it is especially difficult to remove parasites from plants brought from tropical places;
- appearance in the aquarium of a new fish;
- dirty ground;
- as a result of poor-quality and irregular cleaning of the aquarium: clean the coating on the walls, wash the filter;
- cold water;
- temperature changes in the aquarium;
At the initial stage of infection, until the Ichthyophthirius tubercles (another disease name) appear, it is impossible to see with the naked eye.
It is important to treat not only the aquarium fish itself, but also to take appropriate measures to decontaminate the aquarium. Earlier, semolina in aquarium fish was considered easily treatable, and currently it is becoming more difficult to treat it, as the parasites are adapting to the methods of fighting bacteria.
With the appearance of the first symptoms of the disease, the fish in the aquarium may die after a week, so you should immediately treat semolina.
It is possible to cure fish by moving them to another tank, or by leaving them in an aquarium.
White point treatment methods:
This method is suitable for the treatment of ciliates brought from local waters, as tropical bacteria tolerate salt water well. Salt must be taken in the calculation of one canteen per 10 liters of water, while gradually raising the temperature to 32 degrees.
Duration of treatment is 14 days. After therapy for 30 days, it is necessary to replace water every week by 30%.
Efficiency is achieved by reducing the amount of oxygen for the life of ciliates, and the increased temperature of the water prevents their reproduction.
The effectiveness of the drug is lowered by the fact that the concentration of 0.09 mg / l of fish and plants tolerate unfavorable, and a decrease in concentration leads to a decrease in efficiency. And also an indicator of no more than 0.06 mg / l is recommended if young fish and representatives without scales live in the aquarium. Enter it gradually until the disappearance of the rash, and a few days after the removal of visible signs.
With each new addition of medication is necessary to change the water.
A solution of peroxide 3% is recommended to add 1 ml per 10 liters of water. It will saturate the water with oxygen, and the inhabitants will breathe easier.
It is recommended to carefully observe the dosage, an excessive concentration of hydrogen peroxide can harm fish or burn fins.
The combination is designed to effectively combat infection, such treatment is important to carry out only in the chalices, because the use of these funds violates biological filtration.
The following drugs are used to treat decoys in fish:
The combination of malachite green, methylene blue and formalin effectively helps fight ichthyophthiriosis. A mixture of these drugs is called antipar treatment.
Treatment of ichthyophthiriosis with furacilin is also a good antimicrobial agent. Furacilin is sold in a pharmacy.
You need a medicine that is produced in the form of tablets in a dosage of 0.02 g. For therapy you need to put 1.5 tablets in warm water, for complete dissolution. Add the previously described solution of malachite green to the liquid.
Such a composition is enough for an aquarium of 20 liters.
If furatsilin applied without combination with other drugs, then calculated 6-8 tablets per 100 liters of water. Daily for 4–6 days, the water should be replaced by 20% and add half of the dissolved tablet.
Branded drugs for ichthyophthiriosis aquarium fish:
- manufacturer Sera;
- manufacturer Tetra;
- Aquarium Pharmaceuticals (API);
- JBL Punktol ULTRA (for acute stages of the disease).
Aquarium Pharmaceuticals is available in capsule and liquid form. Liquid medicine has a different composition from the capsules and is used after therapy with capsules or replaces them in the acute form of the disease.
Munk fish well gives in to therapy with specialized pharmaceutical preparations. Tablets are produced by different manufacturers, the list of medicines for fish from semolina is periodically updated.
This is due to the fact that those drugs that were treated before, lose their effectiveness, the bacteria acquire immunity, so the funds for the treatment of fish are continuously improved.
Before using the medicine for ichthyophthiriosis, it is important to carefully read the instructions, each preparation has its own composition and therapeutic properties that affect the inhabitants of the aquarium differently.
Together with the treatment of the inhabitants of the reservoir, it is recommended to adhere to the following tips for the treatment of ichthyophthyridiosis:
- additional increase in aeration;
- maintain the required water temperature.
Aquarium after treatment should be freed from the fish and leave it for a few days. The water temperature should be within 32 degrees.
For filtration, use coal to remove drugs from the reservoir. Remove snails from the aquarium and plants are not required.
To prevent disease, you must comply with safety measures:
- quarantine for new inhabitants of the aquarium, including plants;
- Ensuring the hygiene of the aquarium, for this to be a separate siphon, a net and other accessories.
When buying a new pet, it is forbidden to immediately hook it up in a common aquarium. Even a careful inspection before buying does not guarantee health, the fish do not always show white dots in open places.
Infusoria can be in a state of hibernation on the skin or in the mouth and in the gills. During the transportation and sharing of a pet in a new aquarium, the fish is under stress, as a result of which the disease is activated and begins to actively develop.
A new pet should be placed in a special quarantine aquarium, it can be shared with one domestic inhabitant and waited for several days, after that the newcomer can be hooked into the common reservoir.
To avoid contamination of the entire aquarium, it is important to monitor the behavior of the inhabitants when something new appears in it. Outbreaks of the disease occur regardless of the season, year-round.
However, the fact is noted that the disease is especially common in the spring and summer period.
Disease aquarium fish, namely semolina, is one of the most dangerous and rapidly developing diseases. White dots on fish are the main sign of infection.
Having noticed the first symptoms, it is important to begin treatment as early as possible to prevent the acute form and death of all inhabitants of the reservoir.
