My Vera was born 3410 g and 51 cm, on Apgar scale 8-9. That is a normal, healthy baby, full-term. The first two months added according to the norms. Then the problems started.
What the pediatrician diagnoses
The first year we went to the pediatrician every month. The child was weighed and compared the weight with the normal table. If something was wrong, then reported. Before talking about poor weight gain, it was necessary to deal with several issues.
Is there enough milk? Is it thin, is it enough fat? Whether the child eats well, whether it takes the breast correctly. The last is very important! The first few days my daughter often cried precisely because of malnutrition, because I could not feed her properly. So far, one experienced nurse has not shown me how. And then everything went well!
You also had to think about your diet. Because the child receives all the trace elements, vitamins, proteins and so on from me. Of course, when feeding a child with a mixture of such problems does not arise.
So, if the baby’s food is normal, the pediatrician must follow the dynamics of weight gain for several months and only then draw conclusions. Months from 4th Faith gained less and less grams. And at 7 months, the pediatrician prescribed a referral to an endocrinologist.
What the endocrinologist diagnoses
The endocrinologist asked me the same questions as the pediatrician, looked at the weight gain schedule. And most importantly, he looked at the development of the child’s body. An important aspect – the genitals. If everything is developed harmoniously and is age appropriate, you can breathe out. Most likely, there are no serious pathologies.
And Vera found nothing. Therefore, the endocrinologist has written us a referral for hormonal blood tests. Paid. And then the fun began. After all, we have bureaucracy everywhere.
We came to a private laboratory, to which the doctor sent us. And there is no child equipment (blood must be taken from a vein). Good laboratory workers gave us a test tube, did not take a penny, asked us to make a fence in our clinic, and brought them to the analysis, since it happened so.
And in the clinic were very surprised. It turned out that they are doing these tests for free, and right now you can take blood. The results were ready in a week. Everything turned out to be normal.
At 4 months, we noticed a small weight gain. And at 4 months old, I began to introduce supplements. Juice to start. While we were dealing with the doctors (and then the pediatrician must also be reminded every time that the child is healthy despite the poor increase), Vera was 9 months old. By that time, she was already eating normal food, and breast milk remained only for the night and occasionally during the day.
And by 9 months the weight again began to slowly increase. From year to two, the daughter grew slowly but surely. According to the norms now we are passing.
1. Do not panic ahead of time. First, analyze the power, and then trust the experts.
2. Let the child eat how much, when and what he wants (well, almost). Then you will be sure that he is not starving.
3. If your baby, despite the weight, behaves actively, everything is interesting to him, and the doctors do not find anything – calm down! We are all different, it is not necessary to fit in the norms.
