Features of daily routine and care for a two-month-old child

If you compare photos of the newly born and 2-month-old child, mom and dad will notice how he grew up in this short time. And it’s not just a few centimeters and kilograms. The baby can already have their own habits: fall asleep under mother’s breast, doze under the measured motion sickness, watch the actions of adults. During wakefulness, many children like to view objects in the apartment, to practice on fitball and, of course, to swim. Knowing the approximate norms of development at this age, you can gently correct the regime of the day of crumbs and bring it under comfortable parents. So how much should a two-month-old baby sleep?

Most of his life, as before, a two-month-old baby spends in a dream. But its duration is slightly reduced in comparison with the period of the newborn and the monthly age.

Toddlers are often called newborns. But not everyone knows that a newborn is a certain period and a pediatric term. The World Health Organization proposed to limit it to the first 28 days after birth. The infant who is in the second month of life (that is, one month after birth) is called a month. Accordingly, a two-month-old baby is a child of the third month of life.

At an early age, a dream without exaggeration is the basis of the regime of the day. Its quality directly affects the physical and emotional state. A sleeping baby is able to learn the world and communicate, while a lack of rest leads to strong moods and lethargy. In addition, during sleep, the brain produces a hormone called somatotropin. It enhances the synthesis of protein and ensures the growth of organs and tissues of the whole organism. Its deficiency can lead to a lag in the norms in general physical development.


Parents often wonder whether it is possible to specifically wake a child during the day, so that at night he sleeps harder and longer. Pediatricians believe that by the age of 6-8 weeks, children are able to observe certain rhythms, therefore it is allowed to smoothly adjust the sleep time. But, in addition to convenience for adults, such actions should be based on observation of the baby: what time is it enough for him to have a rest and after what time does the first signs of fatigue appear after the waking begins.

At two months of age, children can not follow the regime clearly. Different kids have their time for awakening, daily activities and falling asleep. If the rhythm adopted by the child more or less suits the parents, everything goes well. It's another matter when the daily routine chosen by the crumb does not correspond to any norms. Suffer in this case, both sleep and wakefulness. The growing organism does not receive a proper rest, therefore during games and occupations the young can be capricious and sluggish.

The most frequent disorders include:

  • restless sleep;
  • frequent waking up;
  • too long a dream;
  • small amount of sleep;
  • the change of night and day.

The causes of restless sleep or frequent waking up at night can be both external factors (physical discomfort) and the psycho-emotional state of the baby (overexcitation, the need for finding a mother nearby, features of the nervous system). If the optimum level of temperature and humidity is observed, bed linen and clothes do not cause discomfort, and the family is filled with an atmosphere of love and understanding, perhaps the baby does not get enough food. In this situation, you need to consult a pediatrician about the amount of milk or mixture that the baby needs for one meal.
