Adenoviral conjunctivitis in children: description of the disease, symptomatology, advice on treatment
Adenoviral conjunctivitis is an acute inflammation of the conjunctiva, i.e., of the mucous membranes of the eyes caused by an infectious microorganism (adenovirus).
At the initial stage, only one eye is affected, and after a few days, the disease passes to both organs of vision.
It is accompanied by a sharp rise in temperature, a defeat of the upper respiratory tract (pharyngitis, rhinitis or tonsillitis).
The disease is typical for children attending kindergartens or schools, often transmitted not only by air, but also by contact.
The danger is that Adenoviral conjunctivitis causes various complications, such as the appearance of adenoids, keratitis, otitis, meningitis, etc.
Adenoviruses are very stable, grow rapidly in the human body, and die only at high temperatures.
This conjunctivitis is caused by adenoviruses of the third, fourth, seventh and tenth serotypes. The disease develops against the backdrop of neglected laryngitis, or viral tonsillitis, within 5-10 days. Treatment should be comprehensive, depending on the form of the disease.
There are three main types of adenoviral inflammation of the eye:
Catarrhal conjunctivitis is the easiest and most harmless form. It is accompanied by a slight reddening of the eye proteins, lack of pain and burning. With proper treatment, all the symptoms go away without a trace a week, without causing complications.
The follicular variety is characterized by the presence of small vesicles (follicles) directly on the mucous eye or eyelids, resembling trachoma. It always happens hard, with fever, fever, a strong cold and a sore throat.
Hypnotic conjunctivitis in children occurs most often. Its sign is a dense, whitish film that covers the entire surface of the eyeball. The body temperature can rise to 40-41C, and stay for 3-7 days.
Usually, the film is easily removed from the mucous membrane, but it happens that it is very difficult to remove it from the eye. After such a procedure, the eyes begin to bleed profusely, there are numerous hemorrhages.
The adenoviral form of conjunctivitis is extremely dangerous due to the following complications:
Causes, the course of eye disease, symptoms
Conjunctivitis develops because of the virus getting into the conjunctiva of the eye, causing severe inflammation.
The factors leading to the onset of the disease are many:
