Advantages and disadvantages of caesarean section: opinions of specialists
With every year the cesarean section is gaining increasing popularity. In Brazil, for example, giving birth with caesarean is considered a rule of good taste. In private clinics, 80% of women are Caesarean. But no one has invented a panacea. Cesarean section has its drawbacks and advantages.
First of all, it is an operation, and an operation is always a risk. Despite the fact that caesarean technique and anesthesia are becoming more and more perfect and safer.
If the cesarean section is performed according to the indications, in many cases it saves the health and life of the future mother and child. Indications are planned, i.e. they occur during pregnancy.
The woman and the doctors have time to prepare for the operation. And emergency, when the operation must be done immediately, in order to save the health of the mother and the life of the child.
Thanks to the extensive use of caesarean section, deliveries to date have become safer.
Almost no use is made of obstetric forceps and a vacuum extractor (medical instruments that were placed on the head of the fetus if difficulties arose with the birth of the child).
This often led to trauma to the child and serious ruptures of the mother’s birth canal. Gone are the history of childbirth, lasting more than a day.
