Myths of the XXI century on the upbringing of a child
Many women complain that when they become mothers, they constantly have to deal with the stereotypes of grandmothers in matters of upbringing and caring for the child. It is not easy to convince them not to wrap the baby in a blanket, when he is already warm, not lisp instead of talking humanly, not to force to eat for two, not to console with sweets. The new generation realized the mistakes of their parents and tried to correct them. However, we did not notice how we created our own stereotypes. Let’s talk about them in this article.
When I became a mother, I began to struggle with grandmother’s stereotypes about upbringing and caring for the baby. Oh, how difficult it was to convince not to wrap a child, not to replace human words with lapel, not to console with candy, do not feed for mother, for dad … Having rejected all the old, our generation did not notice that it gave rise to new stereotypes! Here are just some of them.
None of the parents wants their child to lag behind their peers and have difficulty with teaching, communicating with people. Fear for the future of the child forces modern moms to stuff children with knowledge from an early age. As a result, children are trying to teach foreign languages, the reading begins already in the year, and later the baby is given to different sections.
In shops and the Internet, you can now find all kinds of benefits and encyclopedias to educate the child prodigy, which only spurs the maniacal desire of modern moms to develop the child’s intelligence more quickly. There are forums where parents share successes – some have two-year-old sons already recite poems by prominent poets by heart, others have one-year-old daughters saying the first words in English. And still openly open kindergartens with early education, which offers a rich program.
The desire to ensure a happy future for the child is commendable. However, experts warn: excessive loads at an early age provoke general diseases, neuroses and often even kill motivation for further education. It is important for parents to understand: a child must play and receive all the joys of childhood, and for the knowledge of the sciences he will have enough time.
Trying to speed up the development of the baby, parents mistakenly believe that:
- If the child will listen to classical music from the first days of life, then he will grow up to be an intelligent and cultured person.
- The baby will speak quickly if he constantly hears human speech – for example, from a television set.
- A toddler needs to be taught to walk on the pot as early as possible – from the moment he gets to his feet.
- A child is able to simultaneously learn to speak and read.
These statements do not withstand any criticism of pediatricians and child psychologists, and are simply refuted by common sense. Specialists remind moms a simple truth: everything has its time. A half-year-old can listen with interest as mother reads to him a book, but this does not indicate his genius or that he understands the plot. He’s just gay and happy with the fact that his mother, who makes funny voices with different voices, shows color pictures with him. Therefore, make sure that the baby develops according to age, but do not bend the stick. Otherwise, everything will end with neuroses.
Another dream of parents in the 21st century. – to raise a leader from a child who will build a successful career, it will be easy to achieve respect and trust of people. What kind of person should this be? Responsible, confident, enterprising and determined. Many adults can not boast a full set of these qualities due to the nature of the character and temperament. Leader; it is, rather, the merit of not education, but genes.
It is useless to try to awaken leadership qualities in a quiet introverted child, who feels comfortable only next to relatives. Yes, probably, he will not be the soul of the company and the head of a large enterprise. However, this does not mean that the child’s life will be unhappy.
Parents who believe that:
- You can not interfere in children’s quarrels, as this will help the children learn to defend their opinions and cope with difficulties.
- In all games and home competitions, an adult must lose, so that the child’s self-esteem grows.
- It’s good for a child to remain alone-with problems, because only then will he learn to analyze the situation and find a solution.
