Child development in 12 months
Many parents, marking the first birthday of their child, are surprised at how quickly the year passed, and how much had happened in the life of the baby. Perhaps, for the first 12 months of a small person’s life, the most significant changes and steps in development occur. Compared to a newborn baby, a child’s development in 1 year is a huge progress in everything. Until recently it was a helpless bundle that was brought from the hospital, and now the personality that is being formed – the child makes independent steps, learns the first words in speech, new skills, activities, games.
At the same time, some parents, especially if the child is the first, are worried about what he should do after 12 months. They worry whether their kid knows how to do everything in everyday life and in speech, whether the physical, mental, sensory development is normal, whether the regime is correct, or whether it is food. Such norms do exist, but we should not forget that development is a very individual process. Therefore, it is worth listening to the adopted standards, but do not worry, if some indicators are not enough.
In physical terms, the child learned a lot during these 12 months of life. It is believed that by the year the kid should be able to:
- Standing, not holding on to the support, and quite confidently;
- Walking, when an adult holds hands, often at this age, children also walk alone;
- Rise and descend the stairs with the support of an adult;
- Climb on the bed and the couch and get off on your own;
- Get up on your feet from any position, squat.
