The correct active speech of the child is formed only when he hears competent passive speech. Reading babies should be as simple and rhythmic as possible.

It is very important how the text is presented, with what intonation – affectionate, cheerful, kind. In no case with indifferent!

From 8–9 months, when the child is already able to concentrate, he enthusiastically examines books, toys, turns the pages. At a certain stage, babies have a need to get acquainted with paper – they want to be torn and crushed.

For these purposes, it is better to offer him newspapers or old magazines. And it is necessary to teach children to handle books with a child from early childhood.

But if he, awkwardly turning the page, accidentally tore it, you should not make this tragedy out of it. And do not forget about the power of a personal example.

Let the baby see mom or dad read their adult books.

From about six months, begins the first acquaintance with the visual arts. The illustration for the kid is more important than the text.

Bright, dynamic, concise images of books Charushin and Suteev, colorful books, toys – an indispensable tool in the study of the world. The story of a funny chick is listened to with pleasure by those who are not yet able to speak. They are also occupied by cheerful, sonorous rhymes of Chukovsky’s poems.

Without “Confusion”, “Moidodyr”, “Zakalyaki”, “Flies-Tsokotuhi” it is impossible to imagine a single happy child. Children remember these tales from the voice of adults, repeat the stanzas, barely learning to speak.

With funny, mischievous animals, Dr. Aibolit, Crocodile and many other children will be friends until the school itself. From foreign poetry, Mother Goose’s Rhymes and English folk songs are being read by K. Chukovsky and S. Marshak, very young.

Do you know that the genius of Russian literature has written more than a thousand short stories and fairy tales for children?

The three-year-old library is replenished with stories and tales by Vitaly Bianki, Frog-traveler Garshin, Tales by Dr. Seuss, Ukhti-Tuhti, Flops, Mopsi and Cotton Tail Potter, The Famous Duckling Tim by E. Blyton. From foreign poetry we recommend the poems of Lear, Milne, Carroll, and Tuwim.

Middle-aged preschoolers begin to learn fabulous stories. For many evenings, you can read the big books – “The Adventures of Buratino” by A. Tolstoy, the tales of Astrid Lindgren. Which does not mean giving up short works.

Each family should have collections of Andersen’s fairy tales (as a rule, kids start to love his work from Thumbelina and The Ugly Duckling), the Brothers Grimm, Charles Perrault. Kids love and Sergei Kozlov, Eduard Uspensky, Gregory Oster.

Prishvin and Mamin-Sibiryak, Aksakov, Dal, Bazhov wrote beautifully for children.

Korney Ivanovich Chukovsky perfectly knew the secrets of children’s perception and even made a kind of set of commandments for children’s poets. Perhaps some of his tips will help you understand children’s modern poetry:

  • Works for children should be playable.
  • Rhyming words must carry the main meaning.
  • Adjectives should not prevail in verses for children.
  • Rhymes should be as close as possible to each other.

Children with great pleasure listen to the poems and tales of Boris Zakhoder, Valentin Berestov, Heinrich Sapgir, Irina Tokmakova, Roman Sef, Yunna Moritz, Vadim Levin, Oleg Grigoriev. Among the more modern poets and writers I will name Grigory Kruzhkov, Marina Boroditskaya, Andrey Usachev, Tim Sobakin.

Their poems are read to children from three years old.

Children’s verses of “adult” poets – Vladimir Mayakovsky, Sasha Chernoy and OBERIUtov – Daniil Kharms, Alexander Vvedensky, Yuri Vladimirov, are remarkably perceived by kids. You can try to read very small and Russian poetic classics – short poems and fragments of several lines from the works of Zhukovsky, Pushkin, Fet, Tyutchev, Nekrasov, Pleshcheyev.

Of course, children will not understand everything. But they will perceive the mood, the melody of sound combinations, perhaps they will begin to repeat something in their own way at an early age.

And if the book is not yet the age of the child, he simply does not listen to what is written in it, and will run away to his favorite toys.

Three sources and three main ways of introducing children’s literature are shops, libraries and the Internet.
