Early swimming is not a swim or a way to grow a swimming champion. This is primarily a way to heal kids. The load on the muscles increases blood circulation, due to which the brain is more intensively enriched with oxygen.
This, in turn, stimulates the maturation of the cerebral cortex. As a result, the regulatory function of the central nervous system is improved.
In addition, early swimming is an excellent workout for muscles. Due to the active swimming movements, they receive a symmetrical harmonious load, strengthen and develop, which helps to normalize muscle tone and stabilize the activity of the cardiovascular, respiratory and musculoskeletal systems.
Thanks to regular exercises in water, the development of cartilage tissue is accelerated, and the acetabulum of the hip joints is formed in a timely manner. And this is a good prevention of hip dysplasia. The risk of impaired posture and the development of scoliosis is also reduced, and the work of the gastrointestinal tract is getting better.
Thus, early swimming is also an effective prevention of constipation.
But this method of recovery also has contraindications: diseases in the acute stage, open, purulent wounds, skin infections, serious disturbances in the work of the cardiovascular system, liver and kidneys, and intestinal infections. If the crumb has suffered, for example, ARVI, swimming lessons can be resumed only 2 weeks after complete recovery.
Contraindications for early swimming is the negative reaction of the infant to immersion in water. If the child is overworked during such activities, take a break and try again a few days later.
If the reaction remains the same, it is no longer worth trying. It is possible that the baby has already grown and it is too late to engage in early swimming, since the swimming reflex lasts only up to 3 months.
Classes are usually held in special pools, but if the dimensions of the bath allow it (it should be at least twice as large as the baby), you can practice with the baby and at home under the supervision of an experienced baby swimming instructor.
Pay attention to the conditions under which home swimming is possible for babies. Newborns and infants should be examined by a pediatrician.
If the doctor confirms that the child is healthy, there are no obstacles. The main thing – swimming should be fun for the kid.
During the first 6-10 classes, the water temperature should correspond to the body temperature and be at a level of 36-37 ° C. Then it gradually decreases, by the year it can be increased to 33-34 ° C.
The first classes continue for 5-7 minutes. In order not to scare the crumb by a sharp change of habitat, it is necessary to immerse it in water gradually, keeping its legs down, and facing you, not dipping your head in water.
Unlike the pool, swimming with a baby in a home bath is possible every day.
- Immerse the child in the water should be upright, legs down. Take it under the arms, talk tenderly to him. Try to have the baby see your face. Smile
- If the baby is calm, does not scream and he liked the water, go on to the next exercise. Carefully lay it in the water on the back, as during swimming. At the same time support it from below. All is well? Try to hold it in this position along the entire length of the bath. Turn it so that it rests against the wall of the bath. The crumb will immediately push off from her. We assure: the baby will like this exercise, and he will want to do such a “somersault” more than once. The reward you for understanding will be a happy smile crumbs.
- Securely supporting the baby from the bottom, gently turn it over on the tummy.
- To make the child feel better, between exercises, lightly shake him in the water.
If the baby is tired, stop water gymnastics and immediately take the baby out of the water. Signs of fatigue are easy to notice: the child begins to act up and bend.
To visit the pool, mother and baby need to pass stool tests for intestinal group and worms eggs, scraping for enterobiosis. The kid should be examined by a pediatrician and a neurologist in order to rule out contraindications to swimming, and the mother is a therapist and a dermatologist.
If the pool is at a children’s clinic or medical center, the baby is guided to infant swimming and supervised by a physiotherapist.
For classes in the pool will need: Mom – swimsuit and cap, soap and washcloth, slippers; child – special diapers or panties for swimming.
The parents themselves decide how many times a week they will visit the pool with the baby. It is recommended to do this 2 times a week. The number of babies in the group depends on the area of the pool.
According to sanitary norms, for each child under 7 years old there should be 3 square meters. So groups are recruited by 5-6 people.
The advantages of practicing in the pool are obvious: the water level is much higher here, keeping the child is much easier. You will stand in the water with the baby, and not in a tilted pose above the bath.
Mom under the guidance of an instructor repeats all the exercises with the baby, which they have gained while practicing in the bath. Usually the complex includes several different exercises.
If mom doesn’t like one of them, you can skip it.
There are two basic ones: the classic “swim earlier than walking” (the founder is the recognized authority in the field of children’s swimming ZP Firsov) and the Birthlight (the founder is Françoise Friedman).
The classical method is designed for classes for 9-12 months. The ultimate goal is to teach a child to keep on the water for 10-15 minutes before the age of one, to dive to a shallow depth, to get toys from the bottom and to swim under water for 7-8 seconds.
Early swimming Birthlight provides swimming training from 1.5 months to 4 years. It is based on yoga exercises that teach you to relax.
This skill is considered very important for tiny swimmers. Principles of Early Swimming Birthlight:
- smooth adaptation to water
- free movement and relaxation in the water,
- development of natural reflexes and their transformation into conscious movements of arms and legs,
- children and parents in the water – on equal terms. There are no teachers and no students.
Both techniques are aimed at training parents. It is difficult to advise parents which of the existing methods to prefer, because each has its own merits.
The main thing is that the classes are conducted by a qualified instructor.
